The first essence you would need to find in Nightingale is green essences. These are tier 1 essence, so you can get them after unlocking your first Realm Card. You can find green essence while exploring Antiquarian, which is the first realm you can unlock. In case you haven’t unlocked Antiquarian yet, you can do so by clearing the Antiquarian site of power. That requires you to level up your gear score to level 20 and clear the mini dungeon. This also includes defeating the main boss within the site of power. Once you do that, you will get the Antiquarian Major Card Schematic. Unlock it to travel to Antiquarian. Once here, all you have to do is defeat enemies and collect resources to farm green essence
Besides Antiquarian, you can also explore the realms of Astrolabe and Provisioner to get green essence. You would have to clear the above sites of powers before you can unlock the realms. With green essence, you can upgrade your basic gear and power them up to get a better gear score.
