The Tarforge in Mortal Shell 2 allows players to enhance their equipment and increase the power of their weapons. In order to access all possible upgrades in the Tarforge, you must obtain 5 Tarforge upgrades that will be scattered around the game world. These upgrades unlock various things, including weapon upgrades, sidearm upgrades, Tarstone upgrades, and max level upgrades. In this guide, we’ll tell you the location of all 5 Tarforge upgrades.

All 5 Tarforge Upgrade Locations

In Mortal Shell 2, there are 5 upgrades available through Tarforge. These upgrades can be applied at the Tarforge in Marrow Keeper. With the help of Tarforge, you can upgrade your Weapons, Sidearms, and Tarstones. The Tarforge allows players to remove the upgrades from their Weapons and Sidearms and reclaim some of the resources they used to apply the upgrades. These upgrades are not missable, and players can still get them all even after defeating the last boss before starting New Game+.

Muradean Actuator

The Muradean Actuator is located inside the Cleanse Beacon Dungeon in the Village Outskirts Beacon. There is a chest inside the room where you will see your path to the elevator, which takes you down to the main dungeon. After you get the item, you can go to the Tarforge for weapon enhancement.

Obsidian Lathe

Obsidian Lathe is located in the Martyr’s Tomb, which is southeast of the Widow’s Overlook Beacon in Fainweald. Finding it unlocks the ability to upgrade your sidearms.

Etching Needles

The Etching Needles can be found in Glutted Mire. They will appear after you defeat Tarblighted Shepherd, just prior to the battle against Magdalena, Lady of the Woods. The item will help you temper your Tarstones.

Foundry Stone

Foundry Stone is located within a chest which is south of the Outskirts of Mammon Beacon in Mammon. The chest will have a bunch of soldiers defending it, so prepare yourself for combat. After gathering the Foundry Stone, it will unlock the ability to Smelt Equipment.

Endless Core

Finally, you can find the Endless Core close to the last stage of the game, where it lies in a chest in the dungeon of the Cleanse Beacon that is located in the Hidden Knave Beacon. The Hidden Knave Beacon is the beacon right before the final boss stage. Installing the Endless Core increases the upgrade limit, allowing your weapons and sidearms to reach +20.

Upgrading Tarforge without Materials

By killing Franz from the Marrow Keep, you immediately gain access to all four main Tarforge abilities: Enhance Weapons, Enhance Sidearms, Temper Tarstones, and Smelt Equipment. You don’t have to collect upgrade items to activate them anymore. You can do this at the very beginning of the game, and there seem to be no downsides to it whatsoever.

Nevertheless, there is some use in the four upgrade items. When you kill Franz first and then collect the Muradean Actuator, Obsidian Lathe, Foundry Stone, and Etching Needles, you can take them to an unmanned Tarforge and get crafting materials from it in return. Each of these items provides you with

  • 7 Ventrium,
  • 4 Laterite
  • 3 Dorsalite

The Endless Core works differently and is not affected by this. You still need to find it near the end of the game and install it yourself to increase the upgrade limit.
