Brushes with Death is the first of many expansions that Warhorse has added to Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. The DLC follows the story of Voyta the Painter, and players can expect it to last around 8 to 12 hours, depending on their play style. Players who own the DLC can start it quite easily, but there are a few requirements they must complete. This guide offers information on how to complete the Sketchy Situation quest in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, which acts as an introductory quest to the Brushes with Death DLC.
How to Complete the Sketchy Situation Quest?
Starting the Quest
Locate the DLC Marker
Look on your map for the purple quest symbol to the south of Trosky Castle, near the border of the forest. When you arrive, you’ll see a guy tied up to a tree—Voyta, the eccentric painter responsible for the DLC’s central narrative.
Deal with the Wolves
Some wolves will spawn around you before you can release them. You will need to kill them in order to move forward. Luckily, Voyta is secure—keep defence first and dispatch them.
Release Voyta
After clearing, approach Voyta from behind and liberate him from the ropes. He will inform you that bandits attacked him and stole his painting brushes and dice. Offer to help retrieve them. You may choose to do this as an act of charity or for a reward.
How to Get the Painter’s Set of Brushes?
To recover Voyta’s paints from a small vagabond camp, you’ll have to head to a vagabond camp north of Slatego in the woods.
At camp, there are two non-aggressive characters:
- Yura: Brushes owner
- Kuba Four-leaf Clovis: Painter’s Dice owner (optional)
You can obtain the brushes in the following ways:
- Persuasion/Lie: Make Yura think that Voyta was wolf food, and hangmen wait for bandits. Good Speech skills are recommended.
- Archery Contest: Engage in a duel of archery with Yura. Take your bow and arrows. You must score more than him to obtain the brushes. Easy if you’ve practised archery in the base game.
- Pickpocketing: Wait until nightfall when they sleep. Use stealth and pickpocket Yura—look for the “Painter’s Brush Set.” Requires decent Stealth and Pickpocketing skills.
- Stun or Kill: Either knock him out quietly or fight him directly. Loot the brushes from his body.
Acquiring the Painter’s Dice
There are three colored dice: R, G, and B, symbolising primary colours for Voyta’s work.
- Dice Game: Challenge Kuba to Farkle (Dice Poker). Win and steal the three dice. Otherwise, Kuba won’t give them up.
- Pickpocketing: Wait till nighttime, like with Yura, and pickpocket the dice by stealth.
- Stun or Kill: Knock him out or kill him and loot all three of the dice from his inventory.
(Tip: All three dice are quest items. Don’t forget any if you loot him.)
Heading Back to Voyta
Proceed north to Trosky Castle after you’ve reclaimed the brushes (and dice, should you have decided to do so). Voyta can be discovered in the western wing on a higher floor, near the scribe’s residence.
Let Voyta know that you’ve got his things. You will be able to:
- Speak the truth.
- Lie about how you got them.
(Note: This is your decision and does not affect your reward, so go ahead and decide whatever best fits your character roleplay.)
Quest Reward
Unlocks Shield Painting Mechanic and introduces historical design, crest, and colour customisation options for shields. This also unlocks the next quest, “Source of Inspiration.”
