In Gothic 1 Remake, the players will be able access the hidden treasure chest in the underground area at the Abandoned Mine while working towards completing the Lost Apprentice quest. To unlock the treasure, players will need both the Dive skill and also a specific route through the cave system. In this guide we will be detailing how to locate the underwater treasure chest in the game, unlocking the chest, and what rewards are inside.
How to Reach the Hidden Treasure Chest
In Chapter 2, there is a hidden treasure chest located in the Abandoned Mine. The way to get to it is to go straight until you see a glowing blue plant; then, turn right and keep going until you reach an entrance and see a torch lit up on its left. Walk through the entrance and take a left into the area, which you’ll find somewhat cramped; simply duck through and get to the large water area where the gate is opened as part of the quest.
Move through the mine until you reach the first open cabin on your left and enter it. Once inside, jump into the water and swim through the opened gate. You must first learn the dive skill from Homer at the New Camp before trying this dive route.
Go along the underwater tunnel until you enter another chamber. After that, simply keep following the only available path until you reach the mine’s main chamber. After that, you’ll arrive at a large pool with a T-junction, jump in, and continue to swim.
The main quest path directs you to go right, however; if you’d like to find the hidden chest then you’ll need to go left instead. Follow the left route until you reach the end of the tunnel where there will be an opening that leads to the fenced area where you can find the underwater chest.
Note: Make sure to ask Cor Kalom about his missing apprentice, Caine, at the Swamp Camp. Doing this unlocks Orry, who is needed to obtain the Abandoned Mine Key.
Underwater Chest Lock Combination
The chest can be opened without any lockpicking skill. Number the lock pins from back to front, with Pin 1 at the back and Pin 6 at the front. Use the following sequence:
- Pin 1: Left ×2
- Pin 4: Right ×3
- Pin 5: Right ×4
- Pin 2: Right ×2
- Pin 3: Right ×6
- Pin 1: Left ×4
- Pin 4: Right ×1
- Pin 5: Right ×5
- Pin 4: Right ×3
- Pin 3: Right ×1
- Pin 6: Right ×2
After entering the combination, the chest unlocks and contains the Thorn of Wounds, gold, iron, 3× arrows, and 10× ore nuggets.
