The Tadpole is one of the first vehicles you can unlock in Subnautica 2, and it makes underwater exploration much easier. It lets you travel faster, carry extra oxygen, and safely reach areas that are harder to explore by swimming alone. To unlock it, you need to find and scan three Tadpole fragments scattered around the starting region. In this guide, we will tell you how to unlock the Tadpole in Subnautica 2.
How to Unlock Tadpole
In order to get the Tadpole blueprint, you have to scan the three Tadpole fragment pieces using your Scanner. Upon scanning all three Tadpole fragments, the Tadpole blueprint will be unlocked automatically. With the Tadpole blueprint, you can create your Tadpole by using a Vehicle Fabricator. To craft it, you will need:
- 2 Titanium Ingots
- 1 Glass
- 1 System Chip
- 1 Power Cell
Once you get all these resources, go ahead and interact with the Vehicle Fabricator and choose the blueprint for Tadpole. Once you finish crafting your vehicle, the Tadpole will be automatically placed at the Tadpole Dock.
Tadpole Fragment 1 Location

Swim in the south direction from your Lifepod, heading towards about 170 degrees. After sometime you should find yourself near an underwater precipice. Drop down along the edge until you find some pieces of wreckage. Investigate the area around the wreckage, and you should come across your first Tadpole fragment.
Tadpole Fragment 2 Location

For the second fragment, swim southwest from your Lifepod to reach the big clam-like creature. Cross the massive underwater gap to arrive at the metallic overhangs. A little further ahead of the metallic structures lies a rock pillar. Swim towards the base of the pillar to find the entrance to this cavernous area. Inside the cave, which is approximately 250 meters from your Lifepod, you will find various useful materials and the second Tadpole fragment.
Tadpole Fragment 3 Location

From the cave where you found the second Tadpole fragment, go towards the southeast. Make your way past a shipwreck that is near you, heading towards a giant clam-shaped creature. Just beneath the giant creature is the last Tadpole fragment.
