As of the new release of Modern Warfare 2, weapon unlocking has changed. Weapons are now split into Platforms, and each Platform starts with a single gun. You will notice a new attachment known as a Receiver when you customize that specific gun in Gunsmith. The Receiver is the foundation for your weapon builds.
In general, receivers refer to weapons that belong to the same Weapon Platform.
