Deep in Far Fields, you may find Pilgrim’s Rest, a peaceful room marked by a foreboding banging metal door. The cacophony behind the gate suggests a hazardous presence, but it’s not clearly how to open it. This tutorial will instruct you on how to open Pilgrim’s Rest’s door, what is inside, and why you should enter with caution.
Unlocking the Pilgrim’s Rest Door
Step 1 – Discover the Secret Way

Start by exiting Pilgrim’s Rest from the left-hand door, going halfway down the large vertical room, and then entering the right-hand room. A bench and a Bell Beast are inside this room.
Look closely at the small platform to the right of the Bell Beast. There’s a hidden passage tucked just beneath it. Hold right while moving under the platform to slip through the wall and reveal the secret path forward.
Step 2 – Clear the Obstacle Course

The hidden route leads to a challenging obstacle course that tests your platforming skills. You’ll need to:
- Pogo off red orbs to cross gaps.
- Use the Drifter’s Cloak to ride air currents.
- Shun the spike traps scattered everywhere with care.
The track is simple to plan but requires precise timing, hence patience and strict application are essential.
Step 3 – Kill the Rhinogrund and Pull the Switch
At the completion of the course, go left to meet a Rhinogrund that has a lever. Killing this creature not only adds it to Hunter’s Journal but also gives a Beast Shard worth 140 Shell Shards.
Strike the switch there with Hornet’s needle to finally open the Pilgrim’s Rest door. If you merely flip the switch without killing the Rhinogrund and then yourself, the enemy will not respawn—so be sure to kill it first if you want the journal entry and reward.
Other Secret – Finding the Lost Flea

You can also go off on a sidetrack to the right after completing the obstacle course rather than going left.
- Follow the silk spools up the wall on Cling Grip.
- Top of the wall is an alcove that contains a Lost Flea, one of Pharloom’s hidden collectibles.
Why unlock Pilgrim’s Rest?
It leads into one of Far Fields’ more fascinating interactions and helps tidy up an annoying mystery early in your campaign. Combined with the Rhinogrund battle and the surrounding Lost Flea, it’s a worthwhile sidetrack for scientists dedicated to learning all about Pharloom.
