Sometimes you can find ores while using the Manual Miner, while other times you have to mine them using a pickaxe or a shovel. But salt ores can be obtained a bit differently. You need to craft salt ores after getting the source material. The source material you need to find are Stone Ores, and they usually spawn in the desert region of the island. You need to find Stone deposits and use your pickaxe to mine for stone ore. You can quickly identify stones by their large bulky gray mass. If you spot them on the desert sand, quickly bring out your pickaxe and break it down.

Once you have collected enough Stone Ores, make your way to your base and craft the Furnace. If you have a furnace already, then interact with it and place some wood in it. Next, place the stone ore in the inventory slot on the right, then activate it. Click on the salt ore recipe on the left side and wait for the furnace to finish crafting salt ore.
