To get the lockpicker, hop into your ship’s terminal or visit the Company building to purchase items from the in-game store. The Lockpicker will cost 20 credits to purchase it. Once you have the lockpicker, you don’t have to find a key during your exploration. You can use the lockpicker on any door you come across. Use the LMB to attach the lockpicker to the door and wait 20 seconds to do its thing. Once it is done picking the lock, it will fall to the floor and you can store the lockpicker for later use. The Lockpicker can be used infinite times, so you don’t have to worry about the item disappearing after single use. The only doors the lockpicker won’t work on are security doors, so you need to find a code to hack those.
The only drawback to the lockpicker is that it weighs 16 Lbs., which is quite a lot to carry. It can make you slower and an easy target for monsters. If you are playing solo or in a group of two and if you are doing a speedrun, then having a lockpicker will save you time from finding keys. Otherwise it is best to take your time and find the keys within the dungeon.
