As mentioned above, you can get the Extension Ladder from the Company building or purchase it through the ship’s terminal if you are outside. It costs 60 credits to purchase it, and weighs 0 Lbs. If you are on a moon that has some tough terrains, gaps, and hard to reach areas, then this equipment will come in handy. It is best to purchase an extension ladder while exploring the tougher moons, and since it weighs next to nothing, it is easy to carry one. You can also make a quick escape to your ship if you place one next to it.
To use it, you have to place it down using the LMB to open it. Just placing it down with the G key will not open the ladder. Once opened, it will immediately spring up and slowly slant down to touch the nearest terrain. Its length can go up to 9 meters, and it will retract after 18 seconds. The only thing you should be careful of is to not stand underneath the ladder in case it does not hold on to anything. Anyone caught under a falling extension ladder will be immediately killed. It is unsure if this method works with monsters, but it has killed several players who mistakenly stood under the ladder as it fell.
