There are three Protein types that you can purchase from the store. The most basic and cheapest option available is just called Protein, and you can purchase it from the Rocinante Discount Store for 2,000 Yen. You can buy an unlimited amount per day. It gives Joker a +1 HP if used during a Home Training session, and +2 HP and +1 SP if used in the Protein Lover’s Gym in the Shibuya district. To unlock the gym, you need to reach either Rank 5 with the Chariot Confidant or Rank 8 with the Lovers.
The next step to amp up your training is to invest in a better quality protein. You can purchase the Moist protein from the Next Ace Sports Shop in Shibuya, but it will cost you a bit more than normal Protein. You will need to spend 4,500 Yen to get this protein, and can only be purchased once a day. Moist protein will give you +2 HP during a home training session, and +3 HP with +2 SP for a gym session.
And finally, the most expensive but also the most effective protein around is the Import Protein. You can only purchase it once a month if it is in stock, and it will cost you 8,000 Yen. You can buy it from the Next Ace Sports Shop, the same shop that sells Moist Protein. If you cannot wait that long, you can purchase it in bulk if you tune in to the Home Shopping Channel on May 1st, July 3rd, and January 15th. The Imported Protein will give you +4 HP for home training, and +5 HP with +3 SP for gym training.
When to Use Protein
Once you find your preferred choice of Protein, you need to prioritize how you wish to use them. It is best to leave the training sessions for much later in the game since you need to rank up your confidants and improve your social stats first. You also won’t get into a lot of boss battles until later in the game, so you can squeeze in a session only during your free time. Improving your stats and confidants can help you greatly in the early game, as well as learning spells and not relying on Protein for healing during fights. So those should be your primary focus and leave the training sessions and protein investments for later.
