Metals are one of the most important resources that you will require when playing ARK: Survival Ascended Genesis. Metals are needed for crafting better weapons, tools, armour, and structures, among others, so you’ll be farming them throughout your playthrough. Some biomes have higher numbers of metal nodes compared to other biomes. In this guide, we’ll tell you the best places to collect metal in each Genesis biome.

How to Farm Metal

Metals are some of the most useful resources in ARK: Survival Ascended since you will be required to craft better weapons, tools, and structures that will help you survive on the island. The majority of crafting recipes involve metal ingots, meaning that you will first have to mine metals and smelt them in either a Refining Forge or Industrial Forge.

There are various ways to farm metal, such as mining metal-containing rocks using a pickaxe, but a Metal Pick mines much more metal compared to a Stone Pick. Another fast method is using a Mining Drill if you can get access to one. However, the fastest and easiest way of farming large amounts of metal is through the use of an Ankylosaurus. The metal harvested by this creature is faster, and also the metal weight reduction ability makes carrying large quantities of metal easier.

Snow Biome

Some of the best places to mine in the Snow Biome can be found at coordinates 76.2, 27.6. Make sure to travel towards the big mountain that is located in the middle of this region and then start going down the mountain. You won’t find any metal nodes while going through the small corridors, but you will be able to find five to ten nodes on the bigger ledges and platforms. The top of the mountain contains the highest amount of metal. The lower areas also have some nodes.

Ocean Biome

The small islands in the Ocean Biome contain only a few metal nodes, which makes them inefficient for mining metals. Instead, go to the central island, which is one of the best places with respect to metal availability on the entire map. The mountain is covered with metal nodes along its winding paths, caves, and ledges. It becomes very easy to move around the mountain to mine lots of metals in one go. The mountain is home to 70 or more metal nodes.

Bog Biome

There is a lot of metal in the Bog Biome. Walk around the perimeter of the biome and look for the big trees that have a lot of root systems. These big trees are full of metal, and they will have up to 20 to 30 metals in a tree. The bigger the tree and root system, the more metal there will be.

Volcanic Biome

The best farming location to farm is around the entrance of the top cave at the coordinates 9.8, 85. Go through the first chamber in the volcano, where there will be a number of clusters of metal nodes. You can see that there are many different clusters in this chamber and thus will have enough metal nodes for farming without having to go further into the volcano.

Lunar Biome

There is no big deposit of metals; instead, there are small amounts of metal in every normal rock when mining it. High-quality nodes of metals are often found in hills and rocky spots, and the amount of metal obtained from them is many times greater than the average one.

In case you choose to farm in the Lunar Biome, find wide and flat spaces with many rocks and mine everything. Check the caves, because rocks in them give you lots of resources, including metals and Element Shards.
