Side quests have always been a highlight in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. However, the first five hours or so of the game are pretty linear, guiding you through story quests and specific areas. Once you get past that, side quests start to show up. Since you’ll want to fight the blight, help as many people as you can, and romance your favorite companions, it’s a good idea to start adding side quests to your journal as soon as possible. Just keep in mind, they’re not always easy to find, you’ll need to stay alert if you want to uncover them all.

First, you’ll need to progress through the main quest until the Lighthouse is partially unlocked, and your companions each have their own rooms. This will take around five hours of gameplay. Once that’s done, you’ll be able to start picking up side quests, both from NPCs in the usual locations and from your companions.

Side quests are marked with orange exclamation points, which are easy to spot on the world map. However, when you’re exploring, you’ll need to get pretty close to the quest location for it to show up on-screen. If you’re heading to a companion’s room in the Lighthouse, you’ll need to stand near their door before the exclamation point appears. As you progress through the story and unlock new areas to explore, more side quests will become available. Each time you visit a new location, you’ll find more quests to take on.

Companion Side Quests in Dragon Age: The Veilguard

You can also have side conversations with your companions, which help strengthen your relationships and unlock new side quests. These conversations are marked by orange speech bubbles with an exclamation mark inside, and you’ll see them next to the companion’s face icon on the world map. To start one, just interact with them like you would a regular side quest.
