Infections are a critical survival challenge in SCUM, which can be quite serious if left untreated. It happens when germs or microbes invade the body, usually through open wounds that haven’t been cleaned or sanitized properly. Infections progress through three stages if left unchecked. As your infection worsens, it degrades your stats, hampers your capabilities, and causes continuous damage. This guide will help you identify and cure infections effectively, thus ensuring your survival in the game.

Infections in SCUM

An infection begins when germs or microbes invade and grow in the body. It usually is caused by people who do not clean or sanitise their wounds properly. These are open wound infections. Infections progress through three stages: Weakness, Severe Weakness, and Critical Weakness, with the final and most dangerous stage being Sepsis.

Every wound has contamination values, including external pathogens (from dirty clothes or bandages) and wound germs (bacteria in the wound). Hover over the wound to see if contamination is increasing (red) or decreasing (green). As the infection advances, it impacts your stats and abilities, causing a gradual decline and continuous damage over time. Additionally, a bleeding wound will remain in recovery until the associated infection is fully healed.

How to Cure Infections

To stop infection first you need to identify it. If you have an infection you will notice redness and swelling around the wound, you will notice that your guy has a fever, and just not feeling well. So, the best way is to go ahead and find antibiotics around. You need to find the best antibiotic that works best depending on the specific wound and its condition. When treating wounds, use disinfectants like isopropyl alcohol or absinthe before applying bandages.

Taking an antibiotic can strengthen your immune system, helping it eliminate the bacteria causing the infection and allowing your body to heal and close the wound once the infection is gone. Now once you find the antibiotics, go around and take those antibiotics and then go ahead and take some rest. Access the Metabolism tab, select the injury marked with a virus sign, and apply the disinfectant to prevent infection.

However, remember that disinfectants are preventive measures and cannot cure advanced infections. Ensure the wound has clean bandages and is kept to top-tier quality. Over time your infection will go away. To prevent infections early, prioritize cleanliness by promptly removing dirty clothes or bandages from wound sites, as these can increase external pathogens. Only bandage wounds when necessary; minor wounds (C1) often heal without bandages unless bleeding is severe.

Tips

  • Keep track of contamination progress. If the total contamination value is green, your immune system is managing it. If it turns red, take immediate action – disinfect or seek antibiotics.
  • Always carry water and antibiotics in your inventory. These are essential for survival in emergencies.
  • After fights, pour alcohol or absinthe on fresh wounds to keep infections at bay.
  • For serious wounds, use aseptic bandages crafted by combining clean rags with disinfectants.
