When you head over to the Crafting menu, you can see a variety of objects you can craft. Select the Makeshift Chest to check what items are necessary to craft it. To craft one Makeshift Chest, you need 25 pieces of wood and 10 trash. You can collect wood by using your ax and chopping down trees and collect trash by using your scythe/sickle tool on the debris around the area. You can also collect trash underwater. Once you get all the items, head back to the crafting menu and craft the Makeshift Chest. You need to have space in your backpack inventory to hold the chest, so if you are out of space you need to clear some slots up. After crafting and storing it in your inventory, you can now place it near your home or wherever you want. The chest will have the capacity to hold 20 more items, so you can now collect various other items without worrying about your inventory space. If you run out of storage, you can always craft another Makeshift Chest to store more items.
