This quest can be started in Vernworth after completing the Nation of the Lambent Flame quest. Enter Vernworth through the western gate and head over to the Oxcart Station there. You will find two NPCs who will talk about the Phantom Oxcart, thus triggering the quest. If the quest doesn’t appear in your log or the NPCs are not there at the station, then reload your last save and travel to the Oxcart Station at night. You can also talk to the NPCs to learn about the Oxcart and start the quest.
How to Start Phantom Oxcart Quest
To begin, make your way to the marked location on the map to find the Oxcart. You have to reach this location before the sun sets, as the oxcart appears at night. Pass the time till you can spot the oxcart’s lantern appearing from a distance. Wait till it halts, then make your way over there. You will find the coachman and a soldier in conversation. Wait for them to finish, then talk to Navil the soldier. He might try to run away, so catch him to receive the Merchant’s Letter and then let him go
Talk to Captain Brant
Your next step is to visit Captain Brant in Stardrop Inn, Vernwoth. You can find him only at night, so after your talk with Navil, make your way to the Inn and hand over the Merchant’s Letter to Brant. You will be tasked with following the Oxcart, and there are two ways to do it; either disguised as a pawn or by sneaking behind it
How to get Are We There Yet? Trophy/Achievement in Dragon’s Dogma 2
If you choose to get into the Oxcart disguised as a pawn, then you can unlock the Are We There Yet achievement/trophy. To get this achievement, you need to first strip your Arisen of all weapons, armor, and accessories. Head back to the Oxcart’s location at night while bare bodied, and also leave the pawns behind for this objective.
Talk to the coachman and he will tell you to hop on. Go to the back of the Oxcart quickly and jump on. You will be attacked by enemies and guards in between your journey, but you should never reequip any of your armor or weapons. If you are spotted with a weapon, the coachman will kick you out of the cart and your quest will fail. Rather, fight with your fists if you encounter enemies, or just let them beat you up if they are guards and don’t attack back. You will eventually reach your destination and you can gather the evidence for Brant
How to Sneak behind the Oxcart in Dragon’s Dogma 2
If you are planning on trailing behind the Oxcart instead, again make your way to the Oxcart location at night. Stand some distance away so you don’t alert the coachman. Stand at an Oxcart’s length away from the vehicle and wait for it to move. The monologue of the coachman should be negligible to read but not completely faded at the bottom of the screen. Strange music will start as well once the Oxcart is some distance away from you.
If these requirements are met, then it is time for you to start trailing the Oxcart. Keep a steady pace so you don’t lose them but don’t get too close to them. A steady walk is enough to catch up with them while not losing sight of the cart. Eventually you will reach the checkpoint and you can complete this objective
Gather Evidence for Captain Brant
After reaching your intended location, fight the guards to get the Labor Requisition Orders. Reequip your weapons and armor if you have traveled as a pawn. After obtaining the required item, make your way back to Brant to complete the quest
