You may have a difficult time completing the bioscan for the Coral Crab in Subnautica 2 if you don’t know when they are available. The Coral Crabs wake up during the day, around midday, for a short period of time before burrowing back underground. You can find and bioscan a Coral Crab by following the directions below.

Find the Coral Crab Location

To bioscan a Coral Crab in Subnautica 2, first you must find one that is active and swimming. Based on the information available, there are Coral Crabs found approximately 200m east of the life pod. Another one may also appear nearby in the same area.

Wait for the Coral Crab to Wake Up

Without any player interaction, the crabs wake themselves up at a certain time of the day. For both Coral Crabs, their active time is around midday to shortly after midday. Once they are awake, they will continue to walk around, dig in the ground for food, and remain awake for a short period of time.

Coral Crabs are occasionally woken up by other creatures that bump into them. However, that does not always happen. Coral Crabs have an internal clock that tells them when to wake up.

Scan the Coral Crab Quickly

While the Coral Crab is wandering about, you have only two to three minutes to scan them before they go back into their shell (i.e., become inaccessible). The Coral Crabs will not attack or harm you during this time and are safe to approach. You can move right next to them without being attacked or harmed.

It’s important to remember that you’ll need to scan the Coral Crab while it is walking for the bioscan to work correctly.
