However, because of how Nightingale’s character progression works, you might not always have a buddy online to help you out. That’s where the NPC or companion system comes in. Your trusty companion can help you gather resources, carry extra items, and even join you in battle. After finding your companion, the next step is to give them a task. Let’s see in this guide how to assign tasks to NPC Helper (Companion) in Nightingale.

How to Assign Tasks to NPC Helper (Companion) in Nightingale?

Once you finish the tutorial, you can unlock Companions by completing specific types of quests on the map. If you’re on the hunt, keep an eye out for Aid or Defense quests. Completing either of these quests will earn you some Companions. If you see an NPC with a name and a guild listed below it, chances are they can be recruited. Once you finish the quest, their guild name usually switches to “recruitable.” Then you can simply approach them and ask them to join your team.

Now that you have recruited your NPC (companion), it’s time to give them some tasks. The NPC (companion) in Nightingale, will come equipped with either an Axe or a Pickaxe. To assign tasks to the NPC (companion) in Nightingale depending on their equipment, ensure they have the appropriate tools. If they have an axe, craft a pickaxe as a backup and vice versa. The companions will only use items they are equipped with.

The axe is designed for cutting down trees, whereas the pickaxe is used for mining stone. It is important to remember that the NPC companion will automatically perform these actions depending on the weapon or tool they are equipped with. Therefore, to prevent them from mining or chopping trees, simply unequip their respective tools.

Please keep in mind that you can only have one NPC (companion) at a time. When recruiting a new companion, you must first dismiss your current one.
