High on Life was released on December 13th, but it has already claimed the top spot on the Xbox Game Pass, being the biggest launch and biggest 3rd party launch. Now, it has overthrown Forza Horizon 5 on the Xbox Cloud Gaming platform and has even surpassed Minecraft and Grand Theft Auto V on the Game Pass. High on Life is placed just behind Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II/Warzone 2.0 and Fortnite at the number 3 spot overall, but the growing popularity of the FPS doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon.
High on Life has also been noted as the biggest single-player game that was launched for the Game Pass, and has generally positive reviews on both Steam and the Game Pass. The game follows the story of a teenage bounty hunter who is out to restore humanity from aliens with the help of talking alien guns.
High on Life was praised for its quirky dialogs, gameplay mechanics, and overall plotline. The popularity of the game started skyrocketing, partly due to the gameplay, and partly due to the founder of Squanch Games, Justin Roiland. Roiland, who is also known as the voice and creator behind the popular Adult Swim show Rick and Morty, has worked with and voiced one of the characters in High on Life. Bringing his offbeat humor to the gaming platform helped sell High on Life, which ultimately helped it reach the top of the Xbox Cloud Gaming.
