You can encounter the first rune puzzle during Chapter 5 – Subchapter 2: Sjávarrisi. After following the mysterious woman, she flees and you are left trying to find a way out. The only way through is to solve the rune puzzle on the gate. Go close and interact with it to show you what symbols you need to look out for.
Location 1
Turn completely around and climb up the small boulder on your right side. Look to your left once you reach the top and you will spot some moss in a spiral design. Since the pattern is split into two different locations, you need to focus and zoom in or out to make them align
Location 2
Head down the hill and look to your left to find a water droplet. Activate it and a path will open up to the right side of the gate. Follow the path for a short while and keep looking to your left. You will find another moss pattern split into two. Focus on that and you can solve the second rune
Location 3
Go further down the path and activate the water droplet on your left. The path to your right is now open. Go through it. At the end of the path is an abandoned house. To the left of that is where the final pattern can be found and you can complete the puzzle
