Hunt: Showdown 1896 is out and it’s not doing very well on Steam with Mostly Negative reviews. The main cause of the bad review appears to be veteran players disliking the new UI of the game. There are also reports that Crytek is working on a fix for UI. I played the game for a while and it was mostly enjoyable except for nights and into building when nothing was visible. While there aren’t many great fixes for the Hunt: Showdown 1896 Dark Shadows/Black Screen – Only Mouse Cursor Visible, there are some thing you can try.

At the time of writing, the main issue with the dark or black screen seems to be a problem with the driver version of the game. I too had the issue when I first booted the game and I have included my fix as well.

it appears that only the AMD users are affected by this problem and may have something to do with old GPUs. Here are the solutions that have worked to resolve the issue for players.

Install Adrenalin 22.11.2

At the time of writing, this is the only viable fix that has worked for some users to resolve the dark/black screen in Hunt Showdown 1896. Here is how to download the software for your GPU. Do not that for some older GPUs, this version of the GPU may not be available. Here are the steps you can follow to download the version 22.11.2.

1. Go to AMD Driver Download website
2. Under Browse Products, choose Graphics and fill the other details of your GPU such as Family Product, Product Line, Product Model, and hit Submit
3. Click on the Previous Drivers link under Driver and Software
4. Choose your operating system
5. Scroll down to AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition Revision Number Adrenalin 22.11.2 Recommended (WHQL) and click on Download next to it.
6. Install the software, reboot PC and launch the game.

Update the GPU Driver

When you boot the game for the first time and you get a older driver version message, make sure to update the GPU driver. I too has the same issue when I launched the game and a simple update of the driver to the latest fixed the issue for me. I got the latest Nvidia GPU driver and was past the black screen in the tutorial.

Turn on FSR Quality Mode

The next fix is to get the Super Sampling to AMD FSR and set it to Quality Mode. You can find this settings in the Graphics Settings of the game.

Press Left Alt + Enter

If there is a glitch with the screen resolution that causing the black screen, pressing Alt + Enter will help you exit the Fullscreen mode and hopefully fix the black screen.

Nvidia Users Get Game Ready Driver for Your GPU

Get the Game Ready Driver that was specifically made for your GPU. It will be an old driver unless you have a very new GPU or the 40 Series. Here is what you need to do.

1. Go to the Nvidia website
2. Under Manual Driver Search, enter your product specifications and in Download Type choose All
3. Search for the Driver and download the last one
4. For example – Driver Version: 552.44
5. Install it and check if the game works.
