How to Fix Diablo 2: Resurrected Application Encountered Unexpected Error
Here are some solutions we suggest to fix the Diablo 2: Resurrected Application Encountered Unexpected Error. Try each of the solutions one at a time until the game starts to work. Ensure that you are on windows 10 and meet the other system requirements. If not, then the game is likely to crash with errors. The only fix, in that case, is to upgrade.
Switch to Windowed Mode
Some users were able to fix the error by simply switching to Windowed mode. As the game crashes at start-up and you don’t have access to the menu, you won’t be able to do it from the in-game settings. Instead, you need to use the Battle.net Command-Line. The command for Windowed Mode is -w. To use the command line, follow the below steps:
- Right-click on the Desktop shortcut of the game and go to Properties
- In the target field after the question mark, press Space bar once and enter -w
Do Not Overclock
OC is great but sometimes it can cause stress on the GPU and cause issues launching the game. If you are using MSI Afterburner or any other software to overclock or boost the performance of the game, disable it. We will go one step ahead and suggest that you disable all third-party software so you are certain that it’s not another application that causing the problem with the game. Here are the steps.
- Press Windows Key + R and type msconfig, hit Enter
- Go to the Services tab
- Check Hide all Microsoft services
- Now, click Disable all
- Go to the Startup tab and click on Open Task Manager
- Disable one task at a time and restart the system.
Now, attempt to play the game and check if the issue persists.
Clear the Battle.Net Cache
Clearing the cache can also fix the Diablo 2: Resurrected Application Encountered Unexpected Error. Here are the steps you can follow. If clearing the cache does not fix the problem, you may have to reinstall the Battle.net client.
- Ensure that there are no games running using the Battle.net client
- Now, press Windows Key + R to open the RUN dialogue box
- Copy and paste %programdata% and hit enter
- Open the folder Blizzard Entertainment > Battle.net > Cache
- Delete everything in the folder.
Uninstall Battle.net, Remove Launcher Files, and Reinstall
The “The application encounters an unexpected error” also occurs when there is a problem with the launcher. Hence, we suggest that you uninstall and launcher by going to the program and features on Windows 10. Once the application is uninstalled, go to Local Disk: (C) > Program Data. You may have to enable to see hidden files to view the Program Data folder.
Go into the Program Data folder and locate the folders – Battle.net and BlizzardEntertainment. Delete both these folders. Now, reboot the system and download the Battle.Net launcher again.
Before performing the above process, ensure that you have backed-up all your games and associated date so you don’t lose anything in the process.
