If yes, then try all the workarounds suggested in this comprehensive guide.

How to Fix Battlefield 6: An Unknown Error Occurred

Like many other players, if you are also unable to figure out what is going on and how to fix this annoying error, then this guide will show you all possible workarounds to resolve it.

1. Repair EA App AntiCheat

The very first and easiest solution to fix an unknown error occurred in BF6 is to repair EA App Anticheat. Here is what you need to do:

  1. Firstly, right-click on the Start menu and go to Task Manager
  2. Now, close the running game by right-clicking on it and pressing “End Task”. Also close EAAntiCheat
  3. Once the game is closed, go to the EA App
  4. Click on Manage >> Repair
  5. Once the repairing process is complete, relaunch the game.

2. Repair Game Files

Any missing or corrupted game files can also cause this error. Repairing such files can help to resolve the error. Here is how you can repair the game files on Steam and the EA App:

For Steam: Go to Steam Library >> Right-click on the game >> Properties >> Local Files >> Verify integrity of game files.

For EA App: Open up the EA App >> Go to My Collection >> Find the game BF6 >> Click on the three dots and select Repair >> Once the process is done, relaunch the game.2

3. Bypass AdGuard, Pi-hole, or Any Custom DNS Filter

If you are using any of the services mentioned above, they might block the proper connection of the game. So, try bypassing these services by following the steps below:

First of all, identify if you are using a DNS filter. If you have AdGuard Home, Pi-hole, or a similar tool running on your network or PC, it is a DNS-level filter. In some cases, routers or VPN services also have built-in ad-blocking DNS features. If you find any of them, go to the next step.

Switch your DNS to Google DNS. Here is how you can do it on Windows and Mac.

On Windows:

  1. Press Windows + R, type ncpa.cpl, and press Enter
  2. Right-click your active internet connection >> Properties
  3. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) >> Properties
  4. Now, select Use the following DNS server addresses and enter:
  • Preferred DNS: 8.8.8.8
  • Alternate DNS: 8.8.4.4
  1. Once done, click on Ok and restart your PC.

On Mac:

  1. Open System Settings >> Network
  2. Select your active connection >> Details >> DNS tab.
  3. Add 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4, then save changes.
  4. Once done, relaunch the game and check. The error should now be fixed.

4. Make Sure Your EA Account Isn’t Logged in Elsewhere

In case your EA account is logged in elsewhere, you might receive “an unknown error occurred” while playing the game. So, sign out of all the sessions and log in fresh on your PC. Here is how you can log out:

  1. Go to the EA Account Security page
  2. Under Login & Security, choose View >> Security
  3. Click Log Out of All Devices.

It is advisable to change your EA password to make sure no one else is using the account without your permission.

5. Enable Secure Boot in BIOS

The anti-cheat system of EA requires Secure Boot to be enabled for security verification. In case the Secure Boot is off, you should be able to load the game, but after a while, the anti-cheat system detects the failed verification and disconnects you. So, here is how you can enable Secure Boot in BIOS.

First of all, check if Secure Boot is enabled or not by pressing the Win + R keys and typing msinfo32, then pressing Enter. In the System Summary, you will find Secure Boot State. If it is Off or Unsupported, you will need to enable it by following the steps below:

  1. First of all, restart your PC and press the BIOS keys repeatedly (Delete, F2, or Esc)
  2. Once you are in BIOS settings, look for a Boot or Security tab
  3. Find Secure Boot and set it to Enabled
  4. Save changes and exit BIOS
  5. Boot into Windows and relaunch the game.

6. Avoid Encrypted DNS / VPN During Play

Encrypted DNS services such as DNS over HTTPS or VPNs can delay or alter the anti-cheat’s communication with EA servers. While it may sometimes let you connect, the secure boot check eventually fails, causing repeated disconnections.

  1. First of all, make sure your VPN service is turned off before launching the game.
  2. Now, check for encrypted DNS settings: For this, go to Settings >> Network and Internet >> Advanced network settings. Open your connection >> DNS settings >> Turn off “Encrypted only”.
  3. Next, switch to a standard public DNS such as Google or Cloudflare
  4. Once done, reboot your PC and relaunch the game.

That’s it for this guide. Hope this comprehensive guide has helped you to eliminate “An unknown error occurred” in Battlefield 6.
