With the introduction of the Tides of Terraria update in Palworld, the community is plunging into thrilling new content that combines aspects of both Palworld and Terraria. While the spotlight shines on the Moon Lord and Terraria-inspired dungeons, among the most thrilling new features added is fishing—a feature that brings utility and enjoyment to exploration. From catching precious Pals to salvaging precious materials, fishing has a larger part than ever to play in your journey.

This in-depth guide will take you through how to make fishing rods, bait preparation, finding the right fishing spots, and getting good at the mini-games that reward you with good catches.

How to Make a Fishing Rod in Palworld?

To fish, you’ll require a Fishing Rod, and Palworld has three levels—each of which gets progressively better at catching rare Pals and materials. All Fishing Rods are produced at a Production Assembly Line, which can be constructed in your base after it has been unlocked.

Fishing Rod Types and Crafting Requirements

Beginner Fishing Set (Unlocked at Level 15)

  • 10 Paldium Fragments
  • 3 Pal Fluids
  • 8 Ingots
  • 8 Fiber

Intermediate Fishing Rod (Unlocked at Level 28)

  • 30 Paldium Fragments
  • 10 High Quality Pal Oil
  • 10 Cement
  • 30 Fiber

Advanced Fishing Rod (Unlocked at Level 45)

  • 70 Paldium Fragments
  • 20 High Quality Pal Oil
  • 15 Pal Metal Ingots
  • 30 Carbon Fiber

Each rod upgrade increases your fishing efficiency and improves your chances of capturing rare Pals or salvaging better resources.

Crafting Bait: Essential for Every Cast

Fishing in Palworld also involves the use of Bait, which can be made at a Primitive Workbench, High Quality Workbench, or the Production Assembly Line. The bait used determines the difficulty of the mini-game and the rarity of the Pal you catch.

Types of Bait and Crafting Recipes

Simple Bait (Unlocked with Beginner Fishing Set)

  • 2 Pal Fluids
  • 4 Red Berries
  • 2 Flour

High Quality Bait (Unlocked at Level 22)

  • 3 Pal Fluids
  • 4 Tomatoes
  • 3 Flour

Deluxe Bait (Unlocked at Level 38)

  • 4 High Quality Pal Oil
  • 4 Onions
  • 3 Carrots
  • 4 Flour

These upper-level baits simplify the process of fishing by raising the green success bar length in the mini-game and providing a higher chance of obtaining a rare Pal.

How to Fish in Palworld?

Step-by-Step Fishing Instructions

  • Put on a Fishing Rod and Bait: Ensure both are in your inventory.
  • Find a Fishing Spot: Observe shadows darting in any water—these indicate active fishing areas.
  • Cast Your Line: Use the Cast button (default interaction key) to cast your line. This will use one bait.
  • Wait for the Bite: Observe carefully. When two exclamation marks (!!) appear, again press the Cast button to catch your fish.
  • Play the Mini-Game: Hold a golden fish icon within a green bar by pressing and releasing the Pull Lure button. Fill up the progress bar to catch the Pal.

Interpreting Fish Shadow Effects

The visual effects surrounding fish shadows provide you with a clue regarding the potential catch rarity:

  • Normal Shadow: Any random Pal
  • Purple Particles: Potential Alpha Pal
  • Green Particles: Pal with potential Rainbow Passive
  • Purple Glow + Particles: Probability of an Alpha Pal with Rainbow Passive

Construct a Fishing Pond at Your Base

Do you want to fish without having to travel far from your base? You can build Fishing Ponds to take the experience home. These ponds can attract a range of Pals based on their size.

Fishing Pond Types and Materials

Fishing Pond (Unlocked at Level 31)

  • 40 Wood
  • 5 Cement
  • 10 Pal Fluids

Large Fishing Pond (Unlocked at Level 55)

  • 60 Wood
  • 20 Stone
  • 10 Plasteel
  • 20 High Quality Pal Oil

Larger ponds will hold larger and more exotic Pals. Position them strategically close to your base for a steady supply of fishable life.

Salvaging Materials During Fishing

Fishing isn’t just about catching Pals—you can salvage useful materials from shipwrecks drifting on the seas. It adds a functional utility element to the fishing mechanic.

How Salvaging Works?

Mount a Fishing Rod and ride a Water Mount.

  • Find Salvage Spots: These appear as floating flotsam or wreckage on open water.
  • Interact with the Spot: Press your interaction button to start the salvage mini-game.
  • Play the Mini-Game: Arrest a moving green bar on a yellow line to successfully salvage.

Some salvage locations will need a Powerful Fishing Magnet, which is unlocked at Level 61 and made from 1 Hexolite.

Successful salvaging will provide you with random high-level materials, so this is a useful resource farming option in late game.
