“Fields of Light” is a dark and mysterious side quest that drops you in the middle of Cuanacht countryside with the task of assisting in the battle against the creeping Wyrdness, which would consume the country. Its themes of sacrifice, religiosity, and rot make it a quest that divides its time equally between environmental narrative and functional action.
Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon Fields of Light Walkthrough
Starting the Quest
The Fields of Light quest is initiated by visiting the Red Priest Quarters that are located in the center of the Cuanacht district. It is not difficult to find the building since it is typically covered with red flags or ancient religious symbols.
Step-by-Step:
- Go to Cuanacht along the main road from the Wyrd Camp.
- Enter Red Priest Quarters, a rocky building on the outskirts of the village.
- Speak to Brother Fabius, a fatigued priest who is obviously troubled by the encroachment of Wyrd corruption.
- He will tell you he is troubled by the land being overrun by the Wyrd and ask you to install Wyrdlanterns to drive it back.
As you have promised to help him, Fields of Light will be noted in your journal.
Acquiring the Wyrdlanterns
Brother Fabius directs you to purchase Wyrdlanterns — enchanted lanterns to ward against Wyrd corruption. Unfortunately, he has nothing to sell to you. He directs you to Horns of the South, where there is a merchant who will supposedly sell them to you.
Step-by-Step:
- Quit Cuanacht and head southwest to the Horns of the South.
- Look for a blue and yellow-kitted market booth manned by Merchant Alwyn.
- Speak to Alwyn and purchase the Wyrdlantern set. The set includes 10 Wyrdlanterns and costs 3,000 coins.
(Note: If you’re short on gold, consider selling unused gear, completing nearby bounties, or exploring ruins for loot.)
Placing the Wyrdlanterns
With the Wyrdlanterns in hand, return to the farmlands near Cuanacht. Your map or compass will show four specific areas where lanterns need to be installed.
Locations to Place Wyrdlanterns:
- Behind a low stone wall near the east border of the farmland.
- Near a flat stone pedestal, between charred grass.
- At the termination of a wooden pole, directly beside a destroyed cart.
- In front of an arched stone gate, in the middle of the farmland.
At every location, you will have an interact prompt when you are in the appropriate position. You simply need to hold the interact key or tap the interact button to let go of the lantern. As you release every Wyrdlantern, the environment slowly changes — the fog begins to lift, and ambient sound shifts, mirroring the Wyrd being pushed back.
Returning to Brother Fabius
Once you have installed all four lanterns, return to Brother Fabius at the Red Priest Quarters and inform him of your victory. When you arrive, though, a tragic twist of fate awaits you.
Story Event:
- Brother Fabius is deceased, most likely from the pressure the Wyrd and his faith have put upon him.
- You’ll find his body in his quarters, and some lootable objects, including religious trinkets and documents.
No actual dialogue here; the resolution of the story is hinted at with his death and you completing the mission.
Quest Rewards
While the “Fields of Light” quest is dark in its conclusion, its completion rewards you with concrete items:
- Experience Points: To level up and enhance necessary skills.
- Moral & Narrative Reward: You’ve restrained the dissemination of Wyrdness and rescued Cuanacht’s fields.
- Loot from Brother Fabius: Religious trinkets, story pieces, or small gear could be in this.
- Improved Reputation (unofficial): Other NPCs comment about your work when you return to the area later.
“Froeldeh Lyght” is more than a fetch-and-place exercise. It adds depth to the game’s dark, otherworldly world and shows how acts of kindness and devotion on a small scale can fight against the ever-rising Wyrdness. Although Brother Fabius never does become aware of your efforts, your actions function to protect the region, if only briefly.
