Blueprints are items that hold building layouts, allowing you to “copy and paste” sections of your factory. You can select built areas to include in a Blueprint. When you place one, a ghost of the layout appears on the ground, serving as a guide for manually placing factory pieces or, more often, for construction robots to complete automatically. Blueprints can be organized in a blueprint book or library, which helps keep your inventory free and makes it easier to manage or share them.

How To Import Blueprints in Factorio

Blueprints in Factorio let players share their factory designs. If you’ve come across some impressive setups or need inspiration to start your own build, using other players’ Blueprints can really simplify the process. Fortunately, you can easily import Blueprints shared by the community into your game and utilize them to boost your production.

After you find a Blueprint you want to import, look at Factorio Prints and the Steam forums, you can easily copy it to your clipboard by clicking the copy button on the page. Next, open your Factorio game and click on the Import String icon in the shortcut bar at the bottom of the screen.

After importing the Blueprint, you’ll see a green outline. Make sure there’s enough open space on the map, as you won’t be able to place it if there are obstacles like your own structures, trees, or cliffs in the way. If you hold down the Shift key while placing the Blueprint, it will place any parts that aren’t blocked by objects. Once you’ve cleared away any obstacles, you can place the Blueprint down, and you’re all set to go.

Once a Blueprint is created, you can use it as many times as you want. If a Blueprint is blocked by existing buildings, you can hold Shift to place the parts that aren’t obstructed. This method will also mark rocks and trees for removal. Buildings marked for destruction won’t block the placement of a Blueprint, but if there are any buildings in the way, the new building can’t be placed. Keep in mind that an item outside the construction zone can still prevent the placement of a 2×2 building at the edge of the zone. The maximum size for a Blueprint is 10,000 by 10,000 tiles.
