Escaping Prison Cell Guide – Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater

Being captured is almost a rite of passage in the Metal Gear series, and Snake’s imprisonment in Groznyj Grad returns in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. The game offers no hints about how to break out, which can leave players pacing around the small cell with no direction. Thankfully, there are several creative ways to make your escape, each with its own flair.

Making Snake Throw Up

One of the weirdest and simplest methods is to make Snake vomit. Open the Cure Menu to treat a wound and spin Snake’s model around for about half a minute. When you close the menu, Snake will stagger and vomit on the floor. The sound draws the guard in, and he comes in to investigate what happened to him. You can then use CQC to take the guard down and restore your freedom.

Hidden within this move is a bonus as well. If you call Para-Medic to save your game in the cell and then load, you’ll receive a weird hack-and-slash mini-game on an enigmatic character called Guy Savage. While of no help in escaping, one of Kojima’s signature offbeat Easter eggs.

With the Fake Death Pill

Another traditional escape is using the Fake Death Pill, which The Boss had secretly administered to Snake’s wounds in a previous cutscene. You can pull this pill out along with a concealed transmitter in the Fork in the Cure Menu. After you’ve picked it up, swallow the Fake Death Pill so that Snake will fall down.

Assuming that you’re dead, the guard will open up the cell door to check. At that point, it’s just a matter of taking the Revival Pill to wake up and take advantage of the open door.

This is probably the simplest method, and it’s one of the most nostalgic references to the original game.

Unlocking the Door through Secret Radio Frequency

The last one requires a bit of observation skill. Snake’s codec can be used to unlock the prison gate if you’re tuned in on the correct frequency: 144.75. There are two ways to obtain this number. The first way is during a cutscene, where you’re in first-person perspective after you’ve pressed R1 (or RB). In the distance, it is possible to spot The Sorrow holding a sign with the number of the frequency.

The second method is harder but is worthwhile: whenever the guard enters with food, throw it back at him. After three or so of these, a secret cutscene plays. If you switch into first-person mode at this time, you’ll see the number “144.75” scribbled on the back of a photograph.

Once you’ve dialed the frequency on your codec, the door will open instantly so you can just walk out with no battle.
