Dune: Awakening – How to Get Fuel Cells

As you go about making your way through the unfriendly dunes of Arrakis, one of the things that you will quickly grow accustomed to is the Fuel Cell. Used for the first time at the beginning of your journey, these cells will be instrumental in making your way through scavenger quests and powering vital equipment. They don’t always fall into your lap, though, if you don’t know where to look.

In this tutorial, we will break down precisely where to find Fuel Cells, how to identify good farm sites, and how to harvest them efficiently as you make your way through the desert.

Where to Find Fuel Cells?

Fuel Cells will typically be found early in the game when you’re exploring away from your starting point. They should be combined with Salvaged Metal in your first mission to scout a Scavenger Camp.

These Fuel Cells also don’t require extraction with the aid of special equipment. That’s the best part—you can simply pick them up off the ground without ever having to mine, dig, or smelt anything. The only problem is discovering where to look.

Scavenger Camps

The most secure location to find Fuel Cells is around Scavenger Camps. They can be discovered scattered in rocky areas and will often have remnants of ruined buildings or wreckage. You will typically need to clear the area of the aggressive enemies first before you can scavenge the area safely.

When the coast is clear, sweep around the ground carefully. Fuel Cells usually litter the ground in areas where there are stacks of wreckage or next to gigantic pieces of Salvaged Metal. The two tend to be together most of the time, making these camps excellent points of loot for several early-game commodities.

Wrecked Ships

Fuel Cells can also be found near sunken ships, and the Wreck of the Alcyon is a prime example. These areas might take a bit longer to reach depending on your progress, but they will have more reusable resources, such as Fuel Cells.

If you haven’t reached these shipwreck locations yet, don’t worry. You can still give scavenged camps priority meanwhile, since they also offer plenty of Fuel Cells for your early needs.

How to Farm Fuel Cells Efficiently?

One of the best aspects of Dune: Awakening resource farming is the respawn system. Resources like Fuel Cells will gradually replenish in areas that have been plundered before so that you can farm them in the long term.

To get the most out of this, create a looting route. Start by delineating a few scavenger camps that spawn Fuel Cells every time. Clear out each camp, grab everything in it that you can use, and then move on to the next such place. After visiting all the camps along your route, head back to where you started. If you’re fortunate (and time has passed long enough), the Fuel Cells will have respawned so you can collect them again.

Keep in mind that enemy NPCs respawn as well. So, if it has been a while since your last visit to a camp, enter slowly and be combat-ready.

Final Tips

  • Stay on rocky terrain: Fuel Cells and scavenger camps rarely appear in the open desert. Look for areas with hills, cliffs, or ruins of old buildings.
  • Play cooperatively: If you have people to play with, split up so that you cover more space and find camps more quickly.
  • Commit spawn points to memory: The more you farm the same scavenger camps, the more accustomed you’ll become to where Fuel Cells tend to spawn.

Fuel Cells are only half the problem on Arrakis, but knowing where they spawn is what will help a lot towards your early-game success. Take a few minutes and map out a good farm route, and you’ll never be low on power again.
