The Helltide is a special world event that lasts for one hour, transforming a part of Sanctuary into a hellish landscape. During this event, you’ll encounter demonic enemies, face meteor strikes as environmental hazards, and find that all monsters in the affected area are three levels higher than your character. For instance, if your character is level 50, every monster in the Helltide will be at least level 53. In this article, we’ll discuss how to increase the helltide threat level.
Helltide in Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred
When you defeat monsters in the Helltide, you’ll earn Aberrant Cinders, a special currency that’s exclusive to the event. You can use these cinders to open Tortured Chests found throughout the Helltide area, which guarantee items for specific slots. For example, a Tortured Amulet chest will always drop an amulet, while Tortured Weapons chests will always provide weapons. Defeating enemies and opening chests during a Helltide has a good chance of dropping Forgotten Souls, which are an endgame currency used to upgrade Sacred and Ancestral items. You’ll need a lot of Forgotten Souls to fully upgrade your character’s gear, so it’s crucial to farm the Helltide whenever it comes around.
Helltides will appear on your map with a dark red outline, similar to how PvP zones are marked. Each Helltide lasts for 60 minutes before moving to a new location. There’s always a Helltide happening in Sanctuary, so if you miss one, just wait a few minutes for the next to start. You can also check the current timer for the Helltide by hovering over its unique event icon on the map.
How to Increase the Helltide Threat Level in Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred
A few seasons back, Helltides got a big update that introduced new mechanics to make things more interesting. One of the key changes is the Threat mechanic, which you can see as a bar in the top-right corner of your screen, just below your Cinder count. This bar fills up as you take down tougher monsters and open Tortured Gifts. There are three Threat Levels, and as you move up, not only does the chance of getting ambushed go up, but the enemies that appear also become a lot more dangerous.
When the Threat bar fills up completely, you’ll be marked by Hell, and multiple waves of enemies will ambush you. After that, the Threat level will slowly drop until it resets. If you manage to survive the attack, a powerful Elite called a Hellborne will show up, giving you a shot at better rewards. Just be careful if you die at any point during the Helltide, your Threat level will reset back to zero. Utilizing the Threat system will make your Helltides much more rewarding, and it will also help you complete the “Notarized Nuisance” chapter of your season journey.
What is Accursed Ritual in Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred
Each Helltide features an Accursed Ritual located in one of the subregions, which may change partway through the event. You’ll find the ritual site marked on your map. When you arrive, you’ll need to offer three Baneful Hearts to begin the ritual. This will unleash a wave of demonic enemies, and once you defeat enough of them, a powerful demonic imp will appear. This imp is incredibly tough and acts like a Helltide world boss.
