Like most survival horror games, Cronos: The New Dawn equips players with a flashlight to navigate its dark and unsettling environments. In contrast to most games, however, this one’s flashlight is not handled as a conventional on-demand feature. Instead, it’s simply a design and atmosphere component of the game.
How to Use the Flashlight

You’ll acquire the flashlight early in the game. After using the Old Rusty Key on the first locked door during the main objective, Find the Predecessor, the flashlight will automatically appear in your inventory.
From this point forward, the light works differently than in most horror games:
- No manual control – There is no button to toggle the flashlight on or off.
- Cinematic application – The game changes the flashlight automatically depending on where you are, which makes it tense and cinematic.
- Context-dependent light – If the game is deciding the scene needs to be dark to create tension, the flashlight will remain off even if you prefer more to be illuminated.
Though the system could be restrictive for some players, it ensures that the flashlight is illuminated during critical exploration sequences and combat-intensive levels, ensuring the game is balanced between playability and horror.
Adjusting Brightness Settings

Should you like the game less dark, you can adjust the HDR display settings to increase visibility. To do so, go to the Pause Menu → Settings → Display → HDR Calibration.
Here are a few brightness settings that were perfect for testing:
| Setting | Value |
| HDR Max Luminance | 2000 |
| HDR Mid Luminance | 11 |
| HDR Min Luminance | -19.80 |
| HDR Brightness | 1.91 |
| HDR UI Brightness | 399.90 |
| HDR UI Contrast | 1.50 |
These settings light up the darkest areas without dimming the atmosphere, and you can access more detail while you still get to keep the creepy atmosphere.
