While there are claims that Azumarill is enough to take down Charizard, it won’t be sufficient, especially if you use its Belly Drum quite early. Rather you should have a mix of Fairy, Water, and Ice Pokémon and the same tera types to counter Charizard’s Dragon and Fire moves. The best team should consist of the following Pokémon.
- Azumarill – Tank
- Dachsbun – Support
- Sylveon – Offense
- Flutter Mane – Defense/ Offense
- Grimmsnarl – Defense
You can use any of the above combinations to easily tackle Charizard. Azumarill has high HP and ATK stats, making it the Tank of the team. Using its ability Huge Power and its Belly Drum move can help you in the first round, but due to its health depletion, it cannot withstand Charizard in the long run. You can balance that out with Sylveon, who also has high HP, but high Special Attack stats. Sylveon has some good moves to lower Charizard’s defense, such as using Fake Tears and Shadow Ball. its ability Pixilate will turn its normal moves into fairy-type moves.
Dachsbun and Sylveon both have Misty Terrain, which is a great move to use against Dragon types. You can swap Sylveon with Flutter Mane if you put Flutter Mane’s Nature as Modest, and change the EVs to increase its HP and Special Attack. The moveset for Sylveon and Flutter Mane is almost similar, as both have Shadow Ball and Fake Tears, but Flutter Mane has a slight advantage by having Moonblast and the ability Photosynthesis, which gives it increased Attack or Defense stat.
Dachsbun has some choice moves that will increase its ally’s attack output while lowering its opponent’s defense. It also has high HP and Special Defense, making it the perfect support member. It can also get increased defense every time it is hit by a fire-type move, using its ability Well Baked Body. Using Yawn can put Charizard to sleep, which will help your team take turns attacking it.
Last, we will talk about Grimmsnarl. This Pokémon has high HP and high Special Defence, making it a perfect Defense teammate. Grimmsnarl has increased speed using its ability Prankster. Its moveset Light Screen and Reflect can help reduce damage taken by allies, while Play Rough can lower the opponent’s attack.
During the first round, use Dachsbun’s Yawn to get Charizard to sleep, then follow that with passive moves from the rest of the team like Light Screen and Fake Tears. Use Belly Drum right after to bring down Charizard’s health. You can now use Play Rough and Helping Hand to give your team a boost while lowering Charizard’s attacks. Use Flutter Mane’s Moonblast or Sylveon’s Misty Terrain during the second and final rounds to bring down Charizard completely.
