You should head north from the bridge where you first encounter Scratch the Dog. The area we are talking about is between Druid Grove and Blighted Village. There is a cave just north of the bridge in which you will find owl prints. Follow the signs to find an Owlbear mother protecting its cub.
There are several ways to get the mother Owlbear to leave the cub. You can pass the Animal Handling check, the Survival check, the Performance check, or the Strength check. If you choose animal handling, you can learn more about Owlbear signals. Survival checks will make you back off. Performance checks will intimidate the Owlbear, and strength checks will attack it. If you fail any of the checks or attack it, it will fight back. You can kill the Owlbear mother and take the cub by force, or leave them alone and encounter the cub later on.
Finding the Owlbear Cub
If you pick the latter option, you will meet the cub again in the Goblin Camp. You will find the camp west of Druid Grove and Blighted Village. Talk to the cub, then meet the camp leader, Krolla. You will be introduced to Chicken Chasing. You can get options here.
- You can place bets on the game to earn some gold
- Or you can denounce the game as barbaric
- You can also fight all the goblins if you have high strength
You also have to pass the Animal Handling check with the cub to gain your trust. This will help it gain confidence while playing the game, or persuade it to kill all the goblins so it can follow you home. Whichever option you pick, once you are done, you can relax back at camp. After a few days, you will find the Owlbear cub in your camp.
