As the settlements grow in Anno 117: Pax Romana, your residents will want more and more beyond the bare necessities. As soon as Liberti upgrade into Plebeians, their needs change, and new chains unlock. One of the most crucial early ones is the Amphorae chain, but it relies on one central resource: Resin.
If you’re unsure as to how to find Resin Fertility or how to set up your first Resin works, this guide breaks everything down in steps.

Finding Resin Fertility

Before you can even think about producing Resin, you’ll need to confirm whether your island actually supports it. In fact, Resin Fertility determines whether you can build a Resin Tapper in the first place.
How to Check Resin Fertility
You can confirm the fertility of an island in two easy ways:
- Hover over the island and check your mini-map. Fertilities appear in the northeastern corner of the circle.
- Open the province map to see all the discovered islands with their resources.
If your current settlement does not have Resin Fertility, you can:
- Trade for Resin until you find a better island
- Explore by ship and settle a new island with the fertility you need.
Here’s a quick reference for where to look:
| Method | What It Shows |
| Mini-map (hover over island) | Immediate list of local fertilities |
| Province map | Fertility of all the discovered islands |
| Island scouting | Allows you to find new Resin-compatible settlements |

Starting Resin Production

With Resin Fertility on an island, you can finally start preparing your Resin chain. This does require a small amount of progression in your settlement.
Requirements Before You Build
To unlock Resin production, you need to
- Upgrade at least 3 Liberti into Plebeians
- Gather 2 Timber and 2 Tiles
- Find a forest area with about 45 trees for full efficiency.
- Have 8 Denarii available for building upkeep
Building the Resin Tapper
With everything prepared, set your Resin Tapper in a dense forest zone. Tree coverage is directly related to productivity, so look for the darkest green patches on the map. If everything lines up, you’ll reach 100 per cent productivity right away.
Here’s a quick summary of everything needed:
| Requirement | Quantity |
| Resin Fertility | 1 island with fertility |
| Plebeians | 3 |
| Timber | 2 |
| Tiles | 2 |
| Forest Trees | Approximately 45 |
| Maintenance Cost | 8 Denarii |
Once built, Resin will feed directly into your Amphorae chain and keep the Plebeians satisfied as your city continues to expand.
