Throughout the early hours of the Anno 117: Pax Romana campaign, you are busy with political tightrope-walking in order to balance the wishes of Emperor Lucius and Empress Julia. If you have dealt with the imperial invitation — sardines or no sardines — the next major decision falls during Julia’s Birthday.

The Empress wants her daughter, Diana, in attendance for the celebration, and it’s on you to find her and convince her (or not) to go. The choice looks big, but how much does it actually change?

Here’s how to complete the quest and what each outcome means.

Should Diana Attend the Birthday Party?

If you want the short answer:

Your choice doesn’t change the main storyline, but it does have an effect on how Lucius dies and how Diana feels afterward.

  • If you care about Diana’s emotional condition, → Do not make her attend.
  • If you want Lucius to be publicly embarrassed, → Bring her to the party.

Either way, Lucius dies — only the method does.

How to Find Diana in Anno 117

After the Empress asks you to find her daughter, the quest sends you in the direction of Lilybaion. The marker mentions the city, but a new red-highlighted search zone appears somewhere else on the map.

Now, hover over that new zone and look for Diana’s ship. It will be drifting somewhere within the red circle.

You can sail to Lilybaion first if you want, but it has no effect on the outcome or on your dialogue options.

Once you find her, talk to Diana, and you’ll be presented with the key choice:

  • Persuade her to attend, or
  • Let her not attend the party at all.

Both Marcia and Marcus have slightly different conversations with her, but the consequences are identical.

If Diana Comes to the Party

Escort her ship back by selecting your flagship and right-clicking her vessel.

  • Julia is delighted at the party, while Lucius is angry.
  • Diana openly confronts Lucius about what he has done.
  • The Emperor has a sudden fatal heart attack on the spot.
  • Diana feels overwhelming guilt and blames herself for his death.

This option leads to:

  • A dramatic, public ending for Lucius
  • Diana, emotionally devastated

If Diana Does Not Attend the Party

Diana decides to stay away and requests that you bring a present to her mother.

You return alone to celebrate. Midway through, a slave assassin appears with a knife. Lucius is murdered.

This version:

  • Spares Diana emotional trauma.
  • Still results in Lucius’s death, just more quietly and violently

Which Choice Is “Best”?

Mechanically, there’s no incentive for one over the other because neither route affects future quests, resources, or further gameplay progression.

Narratively, the “better” option does depend on what you value:

PriorityBest Choice
Protect Diana emotionallyDon’t bring her
Want a dramatic confrontationBring her
Prefer less guilt on the story’s moral compassDon’t bring her
