Alan has two chances to get the double barrel shotgun. The first time he comes across the barrel is during Chapter 8 Return 4: No Chance. Right after Alan wakes up between the ruins of the torn up FBI base, he has to make his way outside to find Casey. Follow the path that leads to the door at the far end towards the bar area, then head into the foyer and go through the door that leads to the kitchen. Near the exit point is the body of a cult member, and lying beside him is a flashlight and the double-barrel shotgun.
The second time Alan will find a double barrel shotgun is during Initiation 5: Room 665. Make your way to the roof of Oceanview Hotel, and opposite the hotel signboard you will spot a rooftop bar. You can get to the rooftop bar via the Ocean Ave alleyway. You have to then walk over to the boarded up door of the bar. Pull out your Angel Lamp to transform the scene, then step behind the bar counter. Use the light again to change the scene and you will find the gun on the wall.
