The Owlbear Egg is one of these items that will confuse players about its use. Before going to its use, let me first tell you the location of the Owlbear Egg. Players will get the Owlbear earlier in the game, inside a cave in Blighted Village. However, inside the Cave, you will find the Mamma Owlbear with a cub and this Egg. Players can slay the mamma Owlbear and steal the Cub and the Egg or leave the Cave after interacting with her.
Return to your Camp, and after a Long Rest, get back to the Cave to find a different scenery. The Owlbear is killed by the Goblins, and the Cub is captured. Players can save the Cub from the Goblin Camp later, but they can pick the Egg while searching the Cave. Now, players may get confused about its use. The game doesn’t help much.
The first thing you notice about the Owlbear Egg is that it is edible. However, eating the Egg won’t give you any bonus. So, it will be a total waste. Additionally, if you want to have an Owlbear by hatching this Egg, that’s also impossible. So, the final option is to sell it to a merchant. You will get 750 Gold in exchange for it. That’s a profitable deal. However, remember that Edible items will enter your Camp Supply Bag, so you can’t initially find the Owlbear Egg in your inventory. Add it to your inventory before approaching a merchant and selling it.
That’s all you need to know about what to do with the Owlbear Egg in Baldur’s Gate 3. If you want to have an Owlbear, don’t worry, the Owlbear cub you save will visit you sometimes.
