Now that A Plague Tale: Requiem has been made available to the public, we can once more join Amicia, Lucas, and Hugo as we travel across cities that have been ravaged by the plague caused by rats. The game is significantly more challenging than the first one, although, in addition to the difficult combat, there are points in the game where you could easily get stuck. The difficulty level of the game has increased significantly.

One of these situations in which you will get stuck in during the run of Chapter 4. This will happen when you are trying to lower the drawbridge with the help of a soldier. It becomes impossible to break the latch on the leg because you will not be able to equip the slingshot weapon in your hands for some reason. This causes you to be stuck here indefinitely, due to a glitch in the game. Users have reported that they are totally unable to play the game thanks to this bug which is really annoying.

The Cause of You getting Stuck in A Plague Tale: Requiem Chapter 4

We believe that the cause of this issue could be a missing or faulty flag that enables the use of the slingshot in selected areas. Even before you open the door to come into the area in the shipping yard where you will find the guard, you would be unable to use the slingshot.

This can be confirmed by looking at the behavior being executed by Ameica’s character afterward or between the beginning of the chapter. The behavior indicates that the character may be flagged to be in a cut scene or a walkthrough zone. This can be seen by observing the speed at which the character is walking, the voice lines that they are speaking, and the direction in which they are looking. You will still be unable to draw the slingshot or use any weapon as a matter of fact even when you are standing in the rats.

Fix Stuck on Chapter 4 in A Plague Tale: Requiem

One of the players posted a solution in a forum explaining how they were able to get past this bug. They loaded back into the section right before you cooperate with the soldier to get across the dock. They added that the first time they played this section, they were too quick to shoot the tar with the sling before Lucas’s dialogue finished. They used two ignifer pots to get past the rats and not the tar. The second time they waited for Lucas’s dialogue to finish before using the tar pots as directed by Lucas. Following this, they were able to advance in the game past this point.

If you go back to the main menu, you can do Chapter Selection to start from “The Tar Workshop”. Doing this takes you to where you make the first tar pools with Lucas. when I got past this and arrived at that footbridge section again, I was able to use my sling. It should take less than 10 minutes to catch up using this method.

Another user reported that following this method would resolve the issue for the players who are stuck in Chapter 4 of A Plague Tale: Requiem. This seems to have worked for several players. First, you have to return to the main menu of the game and select Chapter Selection once you are there. Choose to load from “The Tar Workshop.” This will load you into the game where you first made tar pools with Lucas. Now, you have to play normally and get to the point where you were getting stuck previously. It should be possible to use the slingshot now. It takes about 10 minutes to do this fix but it has a high success rate.

As you are reading this, the devs are studying this bug and working on a patch to fix it. It will not be long before the bug becomes non-existent. Still, we will keep updating this article with more solutions as we come across them. Stay tuned for it. Thank you for reading this article.

  • Thanks for the help. It was so frustrating to get past the part of lowering the drawbridge for the soldier because of the glitch, but reloading “The Tar Workshop,” and throwing the tar into the round pit fixed the problem. The first time I used a fire pot to get pass that area without throwing tar into the pit, and that probably glitched the game.

  • Thanks for pointing how to fiz the bug, but you mentioned “Hugo” in the section “Fix Stuck on Chapter 4 in A Plague Tale: Requiem” and the charact the is with you in that part is Lucas not Hugo.
