Bi Yuan is a tough boss in the game Phantom Blade Zero who can inflict a lot of damage due to his quickness and strong waves of attacks. Nevertheless, with proper equipment and planning, you can make this battle much simpler. In this guide, we’ll show you the best weapons to use, how to counter his attacks, and how to deal massive damage during his stagger windows.
Recommended Weapon and Ability Levels

In case of the Master Bi Yuan fight, use the Outlaw Warblade and Scarlet Wraithblade as these are powerful weapons. Both weapons provide good damage and high Guard Break, which makes them perfect options for the fight. Make sure you max out both weapons to level 10 on a bell that is near you before you join the arena fight. As far as accessories are concerned, Shenji’s Ring and Resonance Talisman should be worn to boost your Sha-Chi. This will help you avoid getting staggered by his heavy attacks and give you more chances to counterattack when he leaves an opening.
Before starting the Bi Yuan boss fight, make sure your weapons and abilities are upgraded enough. Here’s what you should aim for:
- Weapons: Level 12 and Level 13.
- Phantom Edges: Level 10.
- Abilities: Around Level 3 for most abilities, with one upgraded to Level 4.
With these upgrades, the battle will become much simpler for you. Just continue using the Spider Lily to disrupt his posture and use the unique skill of the Serpent sword during his stagger phases.
The master from the Tan Sect called Yubayan is pretty simple to defeat if you use the correct tactic. You don’t even have to engage in the battle with him throughout the entire encounter, using just the Flying Dagger Phantom Edge to poison him.
How to Beat Bi Yuan

For this battle, you will require the Spider Lily sword, which can be unlocked after defeating Hua, Deadly Betrothed. If you do not have this sword yet, read the guide on how to unlock this weapon. Bi Yuan performs various wave attacks which may result in dealing a large amount of damage, so make sure you parry these attacks. The primary objective for this battle will be to use the Spider Lily to decrease his posture and stagger Bi Yuan. After breaking his posture, use the Serpent sword to land the devastating blows.
Be aware of the situation when Bi Yuan parries your attacks, as after that he will immediately try to break your posture, so do not attack him too aggressively. Do not use the axe too soon, as Bi Yuan can block your attack before you complete it.
When performing his wave attacks, you should dodge them sideways, as some of them can hit you if you dodge them backwards. If Bi Yuan traps you with his attack combinations, continue dodging and wait for your chance to attack him.
How to Deal Massive Damage to Bi Yuan
Continuously employ the Spider Lily sword until you are able to stagger Bi Yuan’s stance. Once you are able to stagger him, swiftly shift over to the Serpent sword and perform your most powerful attacks.
Employ the special ability of the Serpent sword only while he is staggered. Doing so will help you deal much more damage compared to when you employ it while fighting normally. In addition, you could employ the special move after your combo to maximise your damage output.
Look out for his red moves. They are hard to react to due to their rapid deployment; however, you could employ your axe to block them. Even if your timing is not right, your axe would still interrupt him if you land it successfully.
Once you’ve taken your damage, go back to the Spider Lily sword and continue to apply the same tactic. Continue parrying, draining his posture, and then switching to the Serpent sword once he’s staggered. In case Bi Yuan engages you in his extended attack combos, dodge several times and create some space from him.
It is recommended that you wait for another opportunity to stagger him before using the special move of the Serpent Sword, since he is still attacking you at that time. Once you defeat Master Yubayan, you will be rewarded with the Tanzuan Bronze Sword. This is a very useful weapon for those who like to guard.
