With deep snow present in the Deep North biome, exploration may prove to be tricky for players trying to build and move about in Valheim 1.0. The good news is that the Snow Shovel allows you to clear out snow and walk through such biomes. The only downside is that it is an endgame item. In this guide, we will tell you how to unlock the Snow Shovel and use it to clear deep snow.
How to Clear Deep Snow

For clearing snow that has accumulated in large quantities, you need the Snow Shovel tool. Just equip this item in your hotbar, then press the button that you would usually press when using items in Valheim. Focus on the snowy area beneath you and just keep left-clicking as you walk to clear out more space.
How to Build Snow Shovel

To access the Snow Shovel item in Valheim, you must first advance in the game and beat the boss Fader. After beating the boss Fader, you’ll obtain the Fader Relic. This relic is required for crafting the Eternal Pyre, along with 10 Stones and a Stonecutter.
Craft the Eternal Pyre outside and allow some time for it. Eventually, Embers will spawn around the structure. Collect at least one Ember to obtain the recipe for the Snow Shovel. Then you can craft it at a level 3 Black Forge. The ingredients required for this recipe are:
- 5 Finewood
- 4 Flametal
- 2 Embers
Finewood can be obtained by chopping down Birch and Oak trees. Since these trees spawn in some earlier biomes, you will have them before arriving at the Deep North.
Flametal is obtained from Ashlands. Gather the ore in Ashlands and smelt it into Flametal bars before making the shovel.
Building the Eternal Pyre close to your primary base would be a good idea. You don’t need to stand near the Eternal Pyre waiting for the Embers to spawn. Just keep doing whatever you normally do and occasionally visit the Eternal Pyre to get any spawned Embers.
Is the Snow Shovel Necessary
You don’t really require the Snow Shovel specifically to clear out the snow in the new biome. You could also kick or punch the ground to get rid of the snow, or you can use a long weapon like a scythe to clear the area too. Both methods are just as effective in clearing the snow, so even if you don’t have the shovel, you can still start building structures here without it.
