Nord gear constitutes some of the most advanced equipment you can craft in Valheim 1.0, though it requires lots of work and time spent in the journey through Deep North. Blood Gold, molds, and Frost Foundry will be necessary to manage the crafting of Nord weapons, armor, and upgrades. In this article, you will find all the details needed to craft the equipment with ease.

Crafting Nord End Game Gear

The Deep North offers a completely new progression to craft Nord equipment for the end game. Users must gather Blood Gold, locate the physical molds in the dungeons, create casts from those molds, and then complete the casting process using either the Frost Foundry or Liquid Frost. The basic crafting path is:

Gammeltroll → Petrified Tissue → Blood Gold → Mold → Cast → Frost Foundry + Liquid Frost → Nord Gear

What You Need Before Crafting Nord Gear

You first need to defeat Fader, as his special drop is required for making Ember Charges. You also need a Level 4 Black Forge, a Frigid Kiln, and a Frost Foundry.

The Black Forge reaches Level 4 through the new Aprons upgrade, which requires:

  • Moose Hide
  • Black Gold
  • Timberwood

These resources can be found in the Deep North.

How To Get Blood Gold

Blood Gold is derived from Petrified Tissue and it comes from the Gammeltrolls. Gammeltrolls, once killed, become petrified in place. To obtain Petrified Tissue from their bodies, you can use Ember Charges on them.

Ember Charges can be made from the special drop of the Fader along with Seal Pelt at a Workbench, where 10 charges would be produced per craft. Adult Seals can be found in the Deep North’s forests and freezing areas, while baby seals do not drop pelts. After obtaining Petrified Tissue, take it to the Blast Furnace for obtaining Blood Gold.

How To Build The Frost Foundry And Frigid Kiln

The Frigid Kiln turns Ice into Liquid Frost, which is used by the Frost Foundry. Ice can be found around the ice lakes and frozen areas of the Deep North.

The Frost Foundry requires:

  • 15 Iron
  • 20 Stone
  • 10 Frost Cores

Frost Cores are found inside the Winding Tunnels, which are located beneath some of the larger buildings in Deep North settlements.

Where To Find Nord Gear Molds

Nord gear requires actual mold to work with. You’ll need to look for the right kind of mold before you can craft the needed item. In the Winding Tunnels you can find the weapon molds, Frost Cores or the Mold: Intricate Key. The weapon molds can be found amongst the debris.

The Gates of Mörkhalla contain the mold necessary to create armors as well as other weapons. These dungeons require the Intricate Key for entrance and the molds can be found on the weapon stands on the lower levels.

Molds are consumed in the process of crafting, so another mold will have to be used for making the same item again.

How To Craft Nord Gear

Once the Black Forge is at Level 4 and you have the required mold, the crafting process is straightforward:

  1. Level up your Black Forge to level 4 to unlock mold crafting.
  2. Combine the mold, Blood Gold, and any other required materials at the Black Forge to create a Cast.
  3. Before placing the cast into the Foundry, create Liquid Frost.
  4. Add the Cast in the Frost Foundry along with Liquid Frost to finish the item.

This process can be used for Nord weapons, shields, armor, and other gear.

Nord Armor Sets

The three Nord armor sets are:

  • Protector: Heavy defensive pieces that help melee players.
  • Vanguard: Required for ranged players to help reduce stamina drain.
  • Caller: Suited for Mage builds for Eitr regeneration and quicker summoning.

Each type of Nord set includes the body armor, headpiece, and trousers. Armor also requires materials such as Leather Straps and Nord Thread, which can be obtained from enemies in Mörkhalla.

How To Make Elemental Nord Weapons

Memorial Coal can be used to power up basic Nord weapons. You will find this material during your exploration of the Gates of Mörkhalla. You’ll need to take it to the altars afterwards, which can be found in different settlements. Offering the coal at the altar summons hostile ghostly spirits, which you must defeat to get Thunder Blood or Frostfire as rewards.

Finally, take the upgraded version of the basic Nord weapon to the Black Forge for adding elemental damage. As the two names suggest, Thunder Blood will add electric or thunder elements to the weapons, while Frostfire will add a fire-frost hybrid.
