The Valheim 1.0 update comes with two permanent upgrades which allows players to increase inventory space by two full rows. To obtain these upgrades, players must defeat specific bosses before they can purchase them from Haldor. There is also a console command enabling players to increase the number of slots in their inventory without going through the official upgrades.
How To Get More Inventory Slots
There are two inventory upgrades available from Haldor the vendor. Haldor is only available in the Black Forest biome, and his spawn is not fixed. While exploring the biome, check your map for a marked bag location. The icon usually appears once you are around 300 meters to 400 meters (980–1300ft) from his location.
Once you find him, you will find two new options: the Wider Pockets and the Deeper Pockets. Wider Pockets will cost 1000 gold, but you need to defeat Moder found in the Mountains to unlock the option. As for Deeper Pockets, it will cost you 2000 gold, and the recipe unlocks after defeating the Queen found in the Mistlands.
Your inventory starts with an 8×4 grid, giving you 32 slots. Each official upgrade adds another row of eight slots.

Purchasing the two upgrades enables the player to increase the total inventory size from 32 to 48 slots in total.
PC Console Commands
- On PC, open the console with F5 and enter: “devcommands”
- After enabling the commands, use: “inventorysize”.
- You can add the numbers 4, 6, or 9 next to inventorysize to increase your slots by 32 (default), 48, and 72. E.g: “inventorysize 4” for default 32 slots.
PS5 and Xbox Console Commands
- On PS5, hold L1 + L2 and press Options.
- On Xbox, hold LB + LT and press Menu.
- Once the console appears, enter: “devcommands”
- Confirm the warning notice, then type in the command “inventorysize” followed by either 4, 6, or 9.
Bear in mind that some of the console commands can lead to invalidation of trophies or achievements. The game provides the users with a warning every time this happens, so if you are interested in receiving trophies, make sure not to use commands.
Are Extra Slots Required?
Yes, exploring the new biome will require carrying a lot more items back to your workbench. Making multiple trips might not be feasible, so having extra carrying slots is the best way to go about it. Something to keep in mind is that extra inventory slots will not increase your carry weight, so you still require certain consumables that can help you carry all your items.
