Nameless Captive is one of the bosses that can be difficult to beat in Mortal Shell 2, particularly when you are trying to take him down for the first time. The reason why it is difficult is that his moves tend to vary throughout the course of battle, and knowing how to parry, dodge and attack at the right time is important. In this guide, we will tell you the Nameless Captive’s location, recommended build, and the best way to deal with each phase of the fight.

The Nameless Captive Boss in Mortal Shell 2

The Nameless Captive is in the Prisoner’s Domain. After defeating the boss, you will get the Captive’s Scabstone and Gloom as rewards. The Captive’s Scabstone requires 100 Resolve and enables you to wield your sword in a wide sweeping arc, striking any enemies that are near you.

In this fight, it will be better for you to pay attention to your damage, utility, and survivability instead of increasing your health stat. In any case, additional health points from Mango are not so valuable in this particular fight. The problem is that you can die without a reviving possibility, and, in this case, it does not matter how much health you have.

Grisha Remnant will be very helpful in this battle. Keep this artifact equipped as a passive because you will be able to kill the boss due to your execution. Although your chances are quite low, you will be able to use it many times by dealing attacks to the boss. As soon as it happens, you will reduce the boss’s health considerably.

Biosampler will provide you with powerful mitigation that will help you to survive the powerful attacks that you will receive. It works perfectly with an ability that allows you to summon a small body that will help you in this fight. It will be able to knock down the boss, and, thus, you will have enough time to attack him. But if you wish to tank the boss, then using Eredrim or Tiel will help you here.

How to Beat Nameless Captive

The Nameless Captive may take a few attempts to learn, but you don’t need anything special to defeat him. The Nameless Captive has two phases, and the right build can make this fight much easier.

Phase 1

In the first phase, always attack when you get the chance. If you use your summons correctly, you can knock the Nameless Captive down and get several hits in while he is on the ground. Parrying is your biggest move here, and it’s quite easy to do. If you pay close attention, you will notice the Nameless Captive stand still after landing 2 – 3 hits. Use this opportunity to use your sidearm or your best weapon to land some hits.

Once you get the Nameless Captive’s HP down to about 50%, you will need to back off. You can parry some of his attacks, but you don’t have to do this. If you are not sure whether you will parry or not, just create some space between you and him and wait for an opportunity. His slow moves make a perfect target for a parry.

Phase 2

The most dangerous attack to watch out for during this phase is his kick attack. Once you find the red attack indicator on him, there will be some time before he launches the attack. This gives you some time to move away from his attack range. If you remain in the range of his attack, he may kill you with a single attack.

Once you find the red attack indicator, move away from him and wait until the attack has been executed. For his other attacks, make sure that you are able to find opportunities where you can parry his attacks. Successfully parrying these attacks can knock him down and give you another chance to deal damage.

At 3/4th health, the boss will pull out a sword from the ground and deal massive damage. If you own any healing items, this is the best time to use them. The Nameless Captive will use a few new moves, where the boss will rush at you and jump slam down at you. Use your sidearm to deal damage and keep your distance, while dodge rolling while the boss is stationary to hit its back. You can’t parry the attacks here, but you can still try to stagger it.

Once defeated, you can claim the following two achievements if you had completed the achievement’s objective:

  • Headcase – Defeat the Nameless Captive
  • Peter’s Perfect Parry – Parry the Nameless Captive’s headpins
