Magdalena, Lady of the Woods, is an extremely mobile boss who can defeat you with a combination of fire attacks, swarms, and charges. The key to survival against her lies in being mobile and knowing precisely when to attack. This guide explores Magdalena’s location, gear, strategy, and rewards.

Magdalena Location

Magdalena, the Lady of the Woods, is located at the Corrupted Gate behind the Mushroom Village Gate Beacon. Once you are past the gate, navigate through the Sunken Village in the Glutted Mire until you reach a ledge overlooking a swamp. Go down to the swamp and move ahead to reach her boss’ arena.

Due to the high mobility of Magdalena, you could benefit from using a fast weapon such as the Axe & Dagger. It is also worth noting that the crossbow can be advantageous in inflicting damage while maintaining distance.

When it comes to ranged attacks, the Corrosive Stone provides the additional benefit of damage-over-time, whereas the Burnt Effigy gives 15% Burn protection. Meanwhile, Smert can bring the attention of Magdalena to herself, while Tiel can stun her in the shadows, giving you time to heal and reposition.

Stay Mobile and Dodge Her Charges

The safest way to proceed would be to stay away and let Magdalena rush toward you. Her rushing attacks cannot be blocked, so simply avoid them. When she finishes her rush attack, attack a couple of times and then move away again.

When she comes close, do not overcommit and stay too close. She can quickly follow up with her attacks such as grenades and rings.

You can also bait Magdalena to the sides of the arena. Sometimes she gets stuck at that end, while the limited approach from one direction can make her attacks easier to manage.

Deal Damage While She Is in Her Chair

Magdalena will come up to you while she is sitting on a chair surrounded by flames. To keep away from getting burned, deal damage to her from a distance using the crossbow whenever possible. Once you reach the minimum damage requirement, she is bound to come down from her chair.

She will also give you the opportunity to climb up the chair and attack her. You need to successfully do this three times during the fight. Make sure to maintain a safe distance from her when she is encircled by fire. Avoid becoming burnt while using this chance to land hits on her.

Avoid Her Fire and Swarm Attacks

The fire attacks of Magdalena constitute a large threat during the battle. Once she uses her AoE flames, move away and wait till it stops completely before going back to attack her. As the effects of the fire can linger, you’ve got to be careful and attentive even if the main attack has ended.

As the fight continues, Magdalena can start summoning numerous swarms of flies or wasps. These attacks have the ability to drain your health. Try to escape whenever you see swarms from afar. She can also throw bombs containing these insect swarms, which you should avoid.

Handle the Baby Demons

While in combat, Magdalena can call upon baby demons. Don’t rush at them when they appear, instead, dodge away from them, eliminating only those who are bothering you.

It is not necessary to kill all of them. As long as there is one left alive, you will be able to focus on the battle with Magdalena. However, make sure that the enemies don’t trap you. The babies can respawn and start coming back.

Take Advantage of Openings

Magdalena goes through a transformation each time she is defeated and that gives you an opportunity to deal significant damage.

Use a similar strategy for the entire fight: dodge her attacks, stay away from her flames, bugs, and land a few melee hits when she leaves herself open.

Watch your health and heal while you can. With Smert on your side, you can use the breathing room created by his aggro to heal and reposition.

Magdalena Rewards

Defeating Magdalena rewards you with:

  • 11,344 Gloom
  • Magdalena’s Memento
  • Ultimate Karen achievement

Magdalena’s Memento is a Tarstone that consumes 100 Resolve to unleash a flurry of strikes.
