Finding the commander in South Relay can prove to be problematic and difficult for a solo player in Marathon. This guide provides effective guidance on how to prepare yourself for the mission, follow the route to the south relay, and then kill the commander to obtain the necessary credentials without facing any difficulty.
Preparing for the Mission

If you’re in search of completing the bounty that asks you to trace the commander’s location at the terminal located south of South Relay, here’s how you can do it easily. First, you will want to load into the game and find your way over to South Relay; it is suggested that you go there all prepared, especially if you are going to try and take out the commander by solo. In addition to your usual loot and shields, you’ll need plenty of ammo with you as well.
Navigating to the Commander

When you get to your designated location, you will enter a cut-off area and see an orange structure. Go to the back of the orange structure and climb the ladder to go over any barriers. After you have activated the button you’ll find inside the structure, a timer for four minutes will appear; this timer is what will let you know when the boss spawns. The four-minute countdown timer is followed by a waypoint that shows where the commander is located, giving you clear directions on where to go.

It can be difficult to find your way out of this area when you are not prepared. There is a hatch at the back from where you can exit, but be aware there are lasers present, though they will not hurt you; they will apply a 30 second debuff that reduces your abilities from regenerating, and briefly disorients your radar. After you have exited, you will have to travel approximately 700 meters to the North Relay. Keep your combat knife equipped so that you move faster, and try to reach the waypoint before the timer runs out.
Engaging the Commander

At the end of the countdown, you will see a ship descend and spawn the commander. The commander will arrive with allied units and a shield which is purple in colour. When you are playing solo, you will need to manage the adds carefully and destroy the shield in a systematic way. With multiple players working together, coordinated firepower can make the encounter go much more smoothly.

Once you’ve finished off the commander be sure to retrieve your UESC credentials; these are necessary for claiming your bounty. The commander also has some nice loot that you can get so make sure you loot all rewards before departing from this area. This will make sure you complete the bounty effeciently, either solo or with a group.
