Where Winds Meet: How to Unlock Kaifeng

Kaifeng is the second major region you’ll visit in Where Winds Meet. Compared to Qinghe’s mountains and rivers, Kaifeng leans into wide grasslands, open fields, and its massive walled capital city. There’s a lot waiting for you there — new quests, new martial arts, new shops — but you can’t simply stroll in whenever you like.

If you try crossing the border too early, the game just sends you right back. You actually need to push the main story forward to unlock the region, and here’s how you do it.

How to Unlock Kaifeng

To access Kaifeng, you’ll need to complete the For Whom Does He Return quest under the Chapter One section called Heaven Has No Pier. This is one of the longer early story arcs and leans quite heavily on combat. Expect plenty of waves of Aureate soldiers, with a tough boss fight waiting at the end.

How to Beat Qianye

Qianye plays like a much stronger version of the scythe boss from Still Shore. Her first phase is manageable, but the second phase ramps up fast, especially on Legend difficulty. There’s no single trick that trivialises the fight, but a few things make it a lot smoother:

  • Pick up the Melodies of Peace passives from Qi Sheng for free stat boosts.
  • Upgrade your gear and break through any level caps you’re sitting on.
  • Upgrade your Medicine Chest; craft as many healing items as possible.
  • Bring a Panacea Fan for backup healing.
  • Run at least one gap closer like Cloud Steps.
  • Bind Meridian Touch somewhere convenient.
  • Most importantly, get comfortable with parrying because several of her attacks are built around it.
  • Once Qianye goes down, head to the dockmaster near Harvestfall Village. Speaking to them automatically carries you forward into the next chapter and takes you straight to Kaifeng.

Kaifeng opens up a fresh set of activities, and it’s also where you can unlock more martial arts weapon styles.

Are there any requirements before entering Kaifeng?

Kaifeng wasn’t available when the global version launched. After a few days, the region opened with two requirements from the developers:

  • Finish Chapter One.
  • Reach Level 32.

As long as you meet those, you’re free to move into Kaifeng and continue the story.
