The Red Fortress in the Heart of Chornobyl is a formidable challenge, but with careful planning and strategic execution, it can be conquered. Before embarking on this perilous journey, ensure your equipment is in top condition. Visit a Technician to repair and upgrade your weapons and armor. Additionally, stock up on essential supplies like ammo and medkits from a Trader. Armed and prepared, you can now venture into the heart of the fortress.
Get to the top of the Red Fortress
Climbing the Red Fortress is a crucial part of the Last Wish quest. To begin this quest, you need to find Kaymanov. His cabin is located southeast of the spot where you and Richter are teleported. Once you get close to the cabin, you’ll notice a strange barrier surrounding it. Don’t worry, you can pass through it without any problem. When you enter the barrier, you’ll find Dr. Kaimanov chopping wood. A cutscene will then start. You should visit a Technician to repair your weapons and armor. It’s a good idea to fully upgrade them to make the mission easier. While you can loot ammo and medkits from enemies, it’s recommended to buy extra supplies from the Trader to ensure you have enough for the final battle.
Go towards the building and look for a ramp in the scaffolding. Climb the ladder you find there. Once you’re on the second level, turn around and climb the stack of boxes. Turn left, activate the electric anomaly, and climb the next ladder. Activate the gravity anomaly, jump over the gap, and climb the ramp. Climb the next ladder to reach the upper level. Be careful, as more enemies will appear from here on. Turn around and fight your way west. Use the stack of boxes to reach the next level.
Go up the ramp and turn around. Climb the ladder on the other side to reach the rooftops. Fight off the enemies as you head northeast towards another ladder. Defeat the enemies at the top and climb the stairs. Don’t climb the next set of stairs, instead, turn right and go towards the crashed helicopter. Climb the ladder near the helicopter. Once you reach the top of the Red Fortress, you’ll encounter Strelok. You can talk to him about the death of Kaimanov and after a cutscence he will open a portal to let you both in.
