In The Last Gambit, your choices in supporting factions play a crucial role in determining the success of your mission and the survival of your companions. Setting up your team properly beforehand is essential for navigating the challenges ahead. Making sure every character is a Hero of the Veilguard will significantly ease the difficulty. However, if your factions are underleveled or if you lack the right heroes, the task ahead becomes much more difficult. In this article, we will discuss who should support the factions in The Last Gambit Quest in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
Who Should Support The Factions in Dragon Age: The Veilguard
The ideal setup here is to have every faction at three stars, except for the Shadow Dragons or Antivan Crows, depending on whether you saved Minrathous or Treviso, which should be at two stars. Also, every character should be a Hero of the Veilguard. If that’s the case for you, congratulations, keeping everyone alive is straightforward. However, if everyone’s only at two stars or you don’t have Heroes of the Veilguard, things get much harder. While death isn’t inevitable in this scenario, it becomes much more likely, especially when combined with poor decisions.
Taking Down the Magic Wards
Let’s dive into the right choices. When it comes to taking down the magic wards, the best options are Emmrich, Neve, or Bellara. Since one of Neve or Bellara is captured, that narrows it down a bit. This also affects your next two choices.
Taking out the Venatori leader
For taking out the Venatori leader, you’ll want either Neve or Lucanis, and to disable the Juggernaut, you should choose Taash or Bellara. This means that either Harding or Davrin will be part of your squad for this quest. Given that Elgar’nan’s Wrath is Vulnerable to Necrotic damage and Resistant to Lightning, the ideal team would include either Emmrich or Lucanis, paired with Harding or Davrin.
So, if Neve was captured, the order should be: Bellara for the wards, Lucanis for the Venatori, and Taash for the Juggernaut. If Bellara was captured, the order would be: Neve or Emmrich for the wards, Neve or Lucanis for the Venatori, and Taash for the Juggernaut. And of course, one of the “Neve or” choices should definitely be Neve.
Fight Against Darkspawn and Venatori
After that, you’ll watch a long cutscene that shows the fate of your companions, but with the choices you’ve made, you should be in the clear. Next up, you’ll face a combat gauntlet similar to The Isle of Gods, fighting against Darkspawn and Venatori. The ideal team setup is Neve, Davrin, and yourself as the Necrotic fighter, but don’t worry, it’s no tougher than anything you’ve dealt with before. A key tip is to focus on taking out the ranged attackers first. Use Heavy attacks on Armor and Weakpoint attacks on Barrier to deal with them. If your companions have healing abilities, make sure to use those over your potions, unless you’re able to keep your potions topped up by finding more along the way.
