You can now test out certain cars by renting them, but this feature is available in certain game modes. To rent a car, hop into a match under Rivals, Free play, or Featured Multiplayer. Before you start a race, you will get a list of race objectives and the recommended car to complete the track. You can then quickly head over to the Select Car menu and pick the car that suits the requirements. After picking a car, you can head over to the Buy menu, and over here you will get an option to rent it. Select the Rent option to use that car for this particular race. Rental cars are free, but you can only use one type of car per race.
There are no restrictions for the cars you can try out, but there are a few drawbacks to renting cars. You cannot equip upgrades on them, and you won’t earn XP while using a rented car. You can, however, test it out on the tracks to know its performance and whether it is worthy enough to add to your collection.
