In Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, there are many different NPCs who offer side quests that give you useful items, gear, or intel. Tao Qing is one of them, and you encounter him early in the game. Tao Qing sends you on a mission to retrieve a stolen painting—a family piece of artwork that was taken by bandits and rumored to be in Annalum. The mission itself is easy, but finding out the true location and actually getting the painting takes some detective work.

Meeting Tao Qing and Starting the Quest

You have your initial encounter with Tao Qing within the tutorial part of the game, at the bottom of the Reverant Temple. After speaking to him, he informs you that his family painting has been stolen and is now believed to be in Annalum somewhere. He asks you to bring it back and come meet him at Shu Sanctum afterwards to collect your reward.

Traveling to Annalum

Annalum is near the nearby region of Shu Sanctum, a region you’ll find naturally while proceeding along the main path. Begin your quest in the direction of the region containing the Fire Dancer, a tough opponent that you’ll have to vanquish. Vanquish the Fire Dancer and subsequently glance to the left, where a trail runs down along the side of a staircase. Follow this path until you reach a wooden bridge—crossing over it will lead you into the territory known as Annalum.

Finding Annalum and Revealing the Painting

From there, after crossing the bridge into Annalum, ascend the path until you arrive at a Shrine – it is a rest and level-up spot. There will be some aggressive enemies present in the courtyard close to you, with loot that comprises Shadow Stone Needle and a Pendant, on the left-hand side of the courtyard.

Then proceed to the right side of the area, where there is another wooden bridge. Cross the bridge to confront a powered-up enemy who is guarding the object you need. Eliminate this more powerful enemy, and they will release the Scenic Painting, the very same object Tao Qing instructed you to retrieve.

Finishing the Quest and Receiving Your Reward

Once you’ve finished with the Scenic Painting, go back to Shu Sanctum and look for Tao Qing. Give the painting to complete the quest. As thanks for your effort, Tao Qing rewards you with a Red Mercury Shoot, an item that can be of use to you in future fights.

This side mission is rather linear once you know where it is but is fulfilling and provides some world-building depth to Tao Qing’s personality and Wuchang: Fallen Feathers.
