In Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, weapon equipping is crucial to keeping up with the game’s increasingly challenging nature. As you progress through the areas and face increasingly tough opponents, simply relying on base damage just won’t cut it.
Mastery upgrades for weapons, depending on various colors of Red Feathers, are a requirement. Among them, Lustrous Red Feather is the rarest, and players will require it to upgrade their weapons past +9. This guide describes precisely where and how to get it.
Unlocking Weapon Upgrades Beyond +9
Along the way throughout the beginning stages of the game, you collect upgrade items like Faint Red Feather, Brilliant Red Feather, and Radiant Red Feather. These are utilized in the Impetus Repository to level up your weapon to +9. You can gain these items by killing buffed enemies, looting specific areas, or buying them from Wu Gang, who opens up more things for sale in his shop as you return more of his things.
But once your weapon reaches +9, you’ll run into a wall—a wall that requires the Lustrous Red Feather to break through. This is where things get tougher, since the game doesn’t immediately point to the location of this precious item.
Where to Buy the Lustrous Red Feather
After completing the fourth region and its final boss, you’ll be able to access Bo Capital. Once you’ve activated the shrine in this new region, head back to Annalum to begin the process of getting the Lustrous Red Feather.
From Annalum shrine, descend to the center courtyard and look for a wooden walkway to the left. Walk along it until it reaches a place where it ends, and turn left and proceed down further. Here, you will encounter the Panda NPC, who has descended to this floor. Speak with the Panda, and you can purchase the Lustrous Red Feather from him for 5 Bamboo Shoots.
If you’re short on Bamboo Shoots—perhaps you just traded some to acquire other gear—don’t worry. There’s another way you can acquire a Lustrous Red Feather without relying on the Panda’s shop.
Venturing into Bo Capital for Another Lustrous Red Feather
If you’re still at Bo Capital and would prefer to find the item instead of purchasing it, go to the Capital Entrance Shrine. Turn around and face to your left—you should be able to see an entrance to a nearby cave. Enter it and go down the spine bridge. At the bottom is a massive elevator. Take it down to arrive at a massive open area.
This lower area is filled with tough enemies strategically located around the perimeter, and in the center is a shining white tree. Approach the tree slowly and battle or dodge enemies as needed. When you have arrived at the tree, circle around the tree trunk until you reach a white branch that extends up towards the top. Traverse along this branch, and at the final point, you’ll discover the Lustrous Red Feather waiting for you.
The Lustrous Red Feather is a hard to acquire but extremely important material for weapon upgrades to their maximum potential. Whether you acquire it from the Panda or at the top of the radiant tree in Bo Capital, obtaining this upgrade material is an important task in having any chance of surviving through the late-game challenges. Make sure to harvest Bamboo Shoots whenever you can, and keep your eyes peeled for hidden paths and special landmarks—they tend to yield the best rewards.
